New truck shopping- is the 1ags connection still available?

Bought my current truck from Tommie Vaughn thanks to the 1ags connection. I recognize that's not necessarily the best deal possible but probably the lowest BS path.

Current truck - 2014 F150 Lariat 4x4 with the 5.0L V8 and about 210K miles. Mechanically well maintained and runs great. Cosmetically, it's a truck with the normal dings & scratches, wear & tear of a 210K miles truck that's hauled kids all over, towed boats (nothing huge though) and gone hunting & fishing a lot. No complaints at all but at 210K miles it's time to look seriously.

I did get a great deal on this truck because I bought it in October of 2014 when they were trying to get rid of the '14s for the new body style in the '15s.

Anyway, my needs are pretty simple:
- 4 doors
- 4 wheel drive
- towing package (I have a Sabine Versatile poling skiff that I tow all over the Texas coast and even to Florida but it's maybe 2500# for the boat/motor/trailer)
- I want something that will run for 200K+ as long as I maintain it

I've been looking mainly at the new Tundras and the F150 but I'm a little leery of the new twin-turbo in the Tundra and the cam phaser issues in the F150s. I will preemptively say that Dodge and GM seem to be out because from what I've seen, unless I step up to the diesel/HD trucks they're not going to be reliable long-term.

Ultimately, I guess I'm looking for the value play here and just doing the interwebs search I'm not seeing the value out there today. Or maybe I just need to bite the bullet and adjust my ideas of value to the current market.

Sounds like you need to take a look at the Nissan Titan.

Before I bought this F150 I had a Titan. It's been so long I forget the year model it was but I liked it. 4dr, 4wd and ran for 220K miles with little issues. Though, at the end there were some gremlins in the electrical system that were a huge pain in the ass.

Of course, that's 8+ years ago and that Titan was probably 8 or 10 years old when I got rid of it in 2014.

The current generation Titan is an entirely different truck on its 6th model year and the early bugs have been worked out. The initial wonky 9 speed shift logic is really the only lingering issue on the 2nd gen models and there's a programming fix for that now so you wouldn't be affected.

These are near-Tundra (previous gen) reliability, but since they're a largely overlooked option prices are much more reasonable, especially if you buy used.

I think I'd go with another 5.0 F-150.

Those don't seem real easy to find though.

I had a 2019 pro-4X and loved it. A lot of truck for the money, mechanically pretty simple so reliable. Best truck I've ever owned. I only got rid of it because I took a new job with a company car but if that changed I'd be getting another Titan.

If Huntsville works for you, I can put you in touch with Bill Fick at Bill Fick Ford. He is great to work with, and i have bought my last two trucks there. Easy process and no attempts to sell add on junk. My email is in my profile.

Check out GM 1500 diesel. Heard good things so far. My local dealer has one exactly like I'd order. I've been very tempted except the price.

Buy for a gasser, agree I'd pick a GM HD over 1500

Just checked Autotrader. You are not wrong. Wonder if its the normal supply chain stuff or if they are making less 5.0s

I got the best deal I found anywhere from 1Ags TMV contact on my '22. Would definitely work with her again.

I honestly thought they were completely phasing out the v8 in favor of the EcoBoost engine and didn't know they were still available at all.

I bought a 2021 Titan recently and have been very happy with it. My only advice is to not overlook it when you're shopping around. I almost did and ended up taking one home.

I just took delivery of a 2022 F-150 from Buck at Appel that I ordered in May. It has the 5.0 and I love it.

Got my 22 from TVF and it was great!

I think the boost cam phaser deal has been addressed, supposedly for good now. I never had that issue on my 2014 and had almost 200k on it. Hard to beat that motor towing anything with a half ton…

5.0 is solid too

They are phasing them out. Few people want less power and worse MPG.

1Ag's contact is still there. I actually emailed her recently on an Expedition.

She couldn't do any better than what you're seeing posted now.

So she's still real good for the ease of the purchase, but pricing is just standard pricing right now.

For the F150 cam phaser's they finally did a full redesign of the phaser. Supposedly should be in every 3.5L ecoboost that is 21 and newer, but always worthwhile to double check. Ford for warranty work apparently is allowing the warranties to be fulfilled with the old versions to get parts off the shelf and address the supply chain issue with new ones.

But lots want reliability and durability.
