Bought my current truck from Tommie Vaughn thanks to the 1ags connection. I recognize that's not necessarily the best deal possible but probably the lowest BS path.
Current truck - 2014 F150 Lariat 4x4 with the 5.0L V8 and about 210K miles. Mechanically well maintained and runs great. Cosmetically, it's a truck with the normal dings & scratches, wear & tear of a 210K miles truck that's hauled kids all over, towed boats (nothing huge though) and gone hunting & fishing a lot. No complaints at all but at 210K miles it's time to look seriously.
I did get a great deal on this truck because I bought it in October of 2014 when they were trying to get rid of the '14s for the new body style in the '15s.
Anyway, my needs are pretty simple:
- 4 doors
- 4 wheel drive
- towing package (I have a Sabine Versatile poling skiff that I tow all over the Texas coast and even to Florida but it's maybe 2500# for the boat/motor/trailer)
- I want something that will run for 200K+ as long as I maintain it
I've been looking mainly at the new Tundras and the F150 but I'm a little leery of the new twin-turbo in the Tundra and the cam phaser issues in the F150s. I will preemptively say that Dodge and GM seem to be out because from what I've seen, unless I step up to the diesel/HD trucks they're not going to be reliable long-term.
Ultimately, I guess I'm looking for the value play here and just doing the interwebs search I'm not seeing the value out there today. Or maybe I just need to bite the bullet and adjust my ideas of value to the current market.
