The whole situation is crazy because we stayed in constant communication with them through the process to make sure everything was in order. We spoke with both the salesman and the sales manager to make sure everything was secured. They told us they couldn't take a deposit online, but that it was okay since we had done everything else they needed us to and were coming in the next morning to purchase the car. Most importantly, these people had MULTIPLE opportunities to let us know whether we were missing something or to inform us that they were a first-come first-serve dealership. Its baffling to me that they went this far to screw us over.

Looks like yes.

Well it was afew years ago I bought a Ford truck there and I'll never go back. Got home and the finance guy had added several hidden charges to final deal. My one experience with them was they were shady. FWIW

Definitely feel for you with the shady tactic the dealership pulled, but I agree with some others in here..... your posting tactics here are a bit "much".

Shouldn't judge the situation, but if money is as tight as you seem to indicate (and you've mentioned that's part of the reason for your level of anger), why are you buying a 30k+ vehicle?

I do hope Flatout does the right thing and at minimum reimburses you and your boyfriend for the $300 in rental car/Uber fees. It's a joke that dealerships are still pulling this tactic to so many people.

Well, Ms. Brown, it's an imperfect auto market, but it's the only one we've got. I guarantee you the day Keating dealerships are no longer needed to inspire threads on the Auto Board, I'll start making bricks and memes for Reddit.

There are a lot of folks here where $300 isn't going to significantly impact your household, but it's still enough to piss you off. Add the waste of time and disrespect, and I'd be livid too.

It appears a dealership attempted to take advantage of an ignorant buyer. Sucks, but that's what dealerships do.

Advice to the OP for when they do buy a new vehicle…leave the reason why you're looking out of the conversation. If they know you need a vehicle, they'll take advantage of you. If you act like you don't care and can leave on a whim, they'll be more willing to haggle. Only give them the info they need.

I think the most traumatic part of this experience overall was talking to Shaun, the sales manager, on the phone AFTER they had told my boyfriend they sold the car to someone else. As you can imagine, I was extremely upset (more so in a lot of distress) because I realized my boyfriend was now stranded and that we would have to end up paying for a second rental car for him to get home due to the dealer's purposeful deception. Because I was in so much distress, the first thing I said to Shaun when we were connected over the phone was if they realized how badly they had just f*cked us over. That's when Shaun played "victim" (not sure if this is the right term here) by saying he wasn't going to tolerate any "disrespect" from me and hung up. But what disrespect did I have toward him here when making this statement? All I did was clearly describe the situation as it was?? It was a no-brainer for them to realize had just f*cked us over.

To reiterate, this whole experience was completely f*cked up. I had spoke (multiple times) to both John and Shaun over the phone the night before we went to the dealership and they had been super sweet to me, making my boyfriend and I feel CONFIDENT AND SECURE about going ahead and paying for a rental car to visit the dealership. I made sure to ask them if everything was completed by us to 100% secure the car, and they confirmed this with me multiple times. In the morning before we paid for the rental car, we reached out to College Station Hyundai AGAIN to confirm that we had done everything we needed to do in order to secure/purchase this car (as we didn't want to spend $$$ on a rental car if there was any small chance the car could be sold to someone else), to which they confirmed that yes, we did everything we needed to in order to purchase the car. College Station Hyundai knew exactly what they were doing. They knew that they were intentionally lying to us so we would come into the dealership and buy something that costed a lot more $$$. They knew our car had recently been totaled and used this situation to their advantage. Everything about this situation was completely f*cked up.

Since your SO is not from this country, you should probably add a racism claim as well. That seems to work well these days.

Also, you don't have to keep repeating the same thing over and over on this thread. We get that you were bait and switched, ****ed over by John and Shaun, in distress, etc.

Great thread.

Hate to break it to you, but that's not unique to just this dealership. As I stated in another post, don't let any dealership know you're without a car. All it does is scream "I need you." If they ask why you're looking, tell them you're thinking about a new car and just seeing what's out there, then leave it be. It's none of their business why you're looking.

Their job is to make as much off of you as they can. Your job is to negotiate the best deal you feel comfortable with. If you feel they're playing games at anytime, get up and leave. You have all the power.

1. Boyfriend? He is no longer your significant other?

2. "Costed"? Brown isn't as selective as I expected. Then again, Sheila Jackson Lee has a degree from Yale and she thinks man landed on Mars and the U.S. Constitution is 400 years old, so maybe the Ivy League just lets people in that check a lot of boxes.

This is possibly the most tragic thread I've ever read on the Automotive Board.

We've got a Brown grad who has written 5,000 words (half of those in ALL CAPS) about getting screwed on buying a Hyundai and now wants $300 in rental car + Uber fees.

First thing is, you might want to go remove your name from the contract you posted.

Second, please ask our advice BEFORE you start wheeling and dealing on a car.

Third, telling us you're an Ivy Leaguer who aspires to own a $34,000 Hyundai makes me think you're hard core trolling.

Stop off at any high volume dealer in Houston and they'll fix you up.

I do take your point about them pulling your credit but, that only matters if you're trying to buy a house or something significant like that. This is why you always walk into the dealer with your financing in hand. Big volume Houston dealer ran my credit 14 times which didn't show up until I refinanced my house 6 months later.

Lastly, we need to have an FAQ on the Automotive Board about how to purchase a car. That would help our fellow Aggies and Aggie sympathizers keep from getting screwed.

- GPS theft protection where they sell your information and GPS to marketing companies who track you
- Paint AND interior AND windshield protection LOL
- What exactly is paintless dent repair on a new car with no dents?
- what is Clearshield doing if the paint and interior and windshield are all protected? This car sounds indestructible for the low price of an extra $1500

No chit. Seems like $300 we'll spent. OP would have gladly paid that and thought she had a good deal.

She's actually really luck this lesson in buying large items cost her $300. Many on here have paid more for that lesson.

To be fair, seems like they were led to believe that $33,500 was the out the door price. So they thought weren't paying for at least some of that crap
