Parked by this today and it caught my attention. Looks awesome! New to me. Are these as capable as the old Samurai?

Example #2Quote:
When I lived in Tucson (a few years ago) it was common to see people driving Mexican registered vehicles in the US. You just need to speak good enough Spanish and have access to an address in Nogales or similar border city. Any issues with Mexican State DMV can easily be solved with the right motivation ($$$$$).
Border patrol and Migra on both sides of the border have other things to focus on, the issue is with US cops if they have a reason to pull you over

The short answer; the car must leave the US every 12 months. Having said that, I just bought a 2023 Jimny in Hermosillo Sonora and I registered it in Sonora. The issue comes with the insurance. Even though I purchased a full year of insurance ($495), and it does in fact cover Mexico, US & Canada, the policy only allows for the vehicle to "visit" the US & Canada for 28 consecutive days. Once you decide to purchase a Jimny, you have to be lucky enough to win the bid for an available allotment and wait the 75 days for it to arrive at the dealership or pay 20%-25% over new in the semi-new market, which has grown in popularity since the micro chip crisis. I have dual citizenship and even then it was a hassle to purchase because Suzuki wants you to finance or lease the vehicle through Santander Bank. Being that I have never worked in Mexico, applying for and getting credit for $24,000 is not easy without a co-signer. In order to get around that, I sent the full amount through wire transfer from my US bank and hoped for the best. I even purchased some dealer installed options for good measure. Good luck and be expected to bring nostalgic smiles to the car community in your area.
To answer your question, it IS a Samurai. Or to put it better, the Samurai was a Jimny, but they sold under the Samurai name in the States.bam02 said:

Basically Consumer Reports did a hit piece on the OG Sammy and that's where the legend started.
Yes, it was possible to roll it by turning too hard, but you had to do a LOT of EXCESSIVE manuevers to get it to roll. You know, like every other 4x4 short wheel base thing.

Was it a bad rap or was it prone to tip over?
