'09 F150 XLT.

Rolled driver's window about 2/3rds down. Would not come back up.

Can't recall if it would go down any further.

Stopped on my errand run, started heading back home, when I tried again, it worked.

How do I test, or is there a way, to diagnose where the problem is: switch or window motor?

I don't know how to test it, but I can promise you that if I have to tear the door apart - I am replacing both.

The switches wear out and you can replace them without removing the door panel. I'd start with that as you likely need a new switch anyway.

And don't overpay for the genuine Ford part.

It's also possible the window motor power wire is breaking between the door and the body. When you opened and closed the door it may have temporarily made contact again.

I 2nd the wires. I had a rear door lock that would intermittently work and was blaming the lock module, turns out wire was broken near the door hinge. Soldered it up and no problems since

Had this exact thing happen once on an '07 f150. The contact under the switch was corroded from humidity/moisture? I pulled the trim piece containing the switches and cleaned the underside of them. Didn't have any problems after that.

Barney, I agree. If it were to get to the point where I had to take the door apart, I would replace both. But I'm hoping I just have to pop the switch panel out, like shown in the link AgTDub shared.
