My transmission (2012 Tundra) is leaking from somewhere towards the top and I need to get this checked out. Looking for a shop in Houston, central or Katy preferred.

Thanks

Out of your desired radius a bit, but I had good luck with Trans Tech out of Pasadena. Art is a quiet straight dealer. If you want it OEM style, you have to let him know. He is used to helping poor Pasadena folks out, so he will just get you moving, unless you tell him otherwise.

I was having transmission problems back in October with my old truck. Many people on the Auto board suggested Circle D Transmission. I called and spoke with them and they were really helpful and friendly. They have great reviews too. I ended up buying a new truck but if I would have had transmission work I would have taken it there.

There was also a place out in Katy that people recommended. Gary's Transmission I believe. I called and spoke with Gary and he was very helpful as well.

Recent changes to fluid level prior to the leak?

I've used Gary's Transmission before. He's good. Expensive but good. Would not hesitate to use him again

I believe he was a tech at Circle D before starting his own business.

I drained & topped off maybe 9 months ago, but nothing recent. I did have some work done (water pump, valve cover gasket etc, but nothing that should have touched the transmission.

Any idea what the cost would be to fix a leaking seal/hose on top of the transmission? Pretty tight so I'm thinking they'll have to drop it.

Gary's is close to my work so I'll swing by there tomorrow.

Had a Jeep transmission rebuilt at Garry's. Been happy with the results.

I recently used Air World Transmission near i10 west and the beltway. He was honest and open to getting creative if needed.

Do not go to an A+ Transmission whatever you do. They are extremely dishonest and will try to trap you with their "put it back together" fee if you decline their quote.

A little bit of a drive from Katy, but I recently used Jeremy at Transmission Wholesalers for a 6L80E in my Yukon and was very pleased. They rebuild in house and were about 2k less than Circle D. He completed the rebuild in 2 days and communicated well. About two months on the rebuild and no issues so far.

They're located off Louetta in Spring Cypress/Lakewood area. Jeremy's cell is 832-630-7671 and their website is

I talked with Gary's in Katy as well but didn't like that he was first come/first serve every Monday morning. Timing didn't work out for my situation. Seems like a solid shop though.

Circle D definitely knows their stuff but I couldn't justify the additional cost.

Only think I can think of on the very top of the AB60F is the vent...

edit: just checked a pic of the ab60f and I wonder if the plastic vent valve is broke...

It might be the thermostat hoses leaking.

Is the leak more on the passenger side?

If not its likely one of the sensor seals or the shift selector switch seal.

Remove transmission cross member and lower the back gently and carefully just to get a look shouldn't be too much cost or hassle.

Air World Transmission is the best family owned shop around. Mr. Franklin will build and warranty everything he builds/repairs. He rebuilt an automatic transmission for my 2006 Ram 2500 Cummins about 7 years ago. He told me it was the same one he built for hot shot drivers. I had told him I was giving the truck to my 16 year old son. It has not bobbled, took it back for him to service to preserve the warranty and it was done while I waited on a Friday morning. He recommended that I have the driveshaft balanced and new joints pressed in with the rebuild, sent to to a shop on the other side of Houston his dad had used for over 40 years. Best decision I ever made, that thing is bulletproof! 150,000 + miles and still as strong as the first day I picked it up from his shop. The shop is small and doesn't look like much, but the work is first rate!

Dropped it off at Gary's today and hopefully I'll hear back on Wednesday.

Hmm, wonder if it's the thermostat as that was changed recently but the fluid leaking was pretty thick and sticky. It's dripping on the passenger side, which is where most of the hoses are near the transmission.

There is a thermostat for transmission fluid on passenger side as well as an oil to water cooler. Lots of leak paths right there.

That's where I thought it was coming from but since I just had the water pump and thermostat changed a month ago I want to spend more time finding the leak so I can take it back to the guy that did that job. $100 diagnostic fee at Gary's btw

Can you confirm it is transmission fluid?

I've seen the throttle body "heater" leak and run into the engine galley and then run down back of transmission.

There is also a heat exchanger in engine valley that can leak.

Check this thread from ih8mud.

I'm 99% sure it's coolant as I compared both, they're both red but the transmission fluid smells like **** and is more oily. The puddle dries after a couple days and I don't think that would happen w/ transmission fluid.

I'll check the back of the engine tonight, but the recent work seems like the likely candidate.
