My rule is the car has to be less than 10% of my annual gross income. I feel like an LOLPOOR because I can't afford the vehicles discussed in this thread.. Thank goodness mrs couldn't careless about cars and actually shoot me if I went out and spent that kind of money on a depreciating asset like a car..

Saying you feel like "an LOLPOOR" because of an arbitrary rule you set yourself seems weird...

That's pretty strict. Dave Ramsey's rule is everything you own with an engine added up should be less than half your annual income.

He also says to not borrow for anything but a house.

That's correct.

My only point in posting was to show how the posters rule is really strict considering it's stricter than Dave Ramsey's rule, who most would say is very strict.

Who said anything about borrowing?

I don't believe the Cadillac includes adaptive cruise control at that price / trim level. May not be important to you, but I'd have a hard to spending $80k without having that feature on a vehicle I'd likely use for commuting and long road trips

Assuming you have 2 vehicles, that means each could be a quarter of your annual salary. I don't think most folks are paying cash for something that costs 1/4 of their annual pay.

Are you sure that price is locked in for the Escalade?

I just did a quick search online and the first three Escalades that pop up are three used 2021 models going for:

  • $132K - 7,800 miles
  • $125k - 4,700 miles
  • $111K - 10,600 miles

Absolutely insane. I'm hoping both of our Cadillacs beat their notorious reliability ratings and they last until we hopefully get through the supply chain crisis.

Now google the price of a G-Wagon!

My thoughts exactly! haha
I'm good to go on both pieces of Dave Ramsey advise. We're good then

Yes. We are going to send the paperwork off tonight.
Those prices are for cars on the floor and in stock. Folks are willing to pay a premium to take a car home ASAP rather then waiting.

Valid points. Thanks for point that out.
We typically take my truck on road trips (more cargo in the bed) and her commute to work is 20 miles or so.

Which dealer are you working with on the build to order? Are they charging any fees or "premiums" once it arrives?

We have been dealing with Sewell in Grapevine.
There was about a $1,200 difference between the price we see online and what they show on their end (before TT&L). We can live with that.

I'm making sure we get everything in writing before it's ordered so there aren't any last minute add on BS fees.

Oh and the "destination fee" is already listed when building online. I haven't seen the itemized list of where that other $1200 is coming from. I'm sure it's stuff they out in their pocket.

Neighbor ordered from Crest in Frisco and number he built online was what he is set to pay per his paperwork. Might just reach out and check. Unless $1,200 is nothing to you.

I believe Sewell has a corporate policy to not add any dealer markup over MSRP. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some kind of dealer add fees, but it shouldn't be a "market adjustment" to the price.

Be sure to comply with Rule #1 once you get your Escalade.

We are going to check with Crest today and a few others. Just to see how they compare. Appreciate the info!

I just want everything in writing before we pull the trigger.
