Son put my weedeater gas (50:1 mix) in my 4-cycle mower. Finished the yard out and it ran fine. No smoke or anything. Any long term issues? Since it ran ok I was just going to use it to empty, then run clean fuel through with some Berryman cleaner in it. Think it might foul the plug? Any carb issues?

I did that a few times as a kid with a push mower from the '80's and never had an issue. If anything go ahead and fill it back up with regular gas just to dilute what's in the tank.

Yeah fresh fuel and possibly a spark plug.

I routinely do that, old small engine repair guy suggested it many years ago and have done it ever since with no problem

Better than putting regular gas in a two stroke.

You shouldn't have any long term issues but I would take the rest of the gas out. I'd also use this as an opportunity to clean the carb, clean the plug, and I'd also run a fresh quarter or so tank of gas in there ASAP after doing all that. Use the Berryman B12 spray with the plug is out, spray the internals out as best you can. If the plug is more than 2 years old, go ahead and replace it. Although not related, get a new air filter if that hasn't been changed in a while.

All the engine did was burn a little 2 cycle oil. It MAY have caused a little gunk in there but I can't think of a reason why there'd be long term damage. Will the rest hurt it? Probably not, but I'd still remove it. Its easy.

Yeah. That's the recommended mix. Why? I put the premix stuff from home depot in the edger. No ethanol, less maintenance.

Always thought 33:1 was the standard. Apparently both are common. Learned something.

Depends on the engine and jetting. I pretty much run 40:1 in everything but my son's little KTM actually calls for 60:1. I ain't mixing a separate batch for it so I'll get a little bigger jet so it will handle 40:1.

I've got a gas weed-eater that calls for 25:1. Darn thing was made in the mid-80s and my grandfather used to to keep electric fences cleared. I buy the 50:1 canned stuff and add enough oil to bring it to spec. Nearly 40 year old machine still runs strong and starts on the first pull.

Running a richer oil mix won't hurt the engine. You might foul a plug a bit sooner, but that's far superior to fouling surfaces due to insufficient lubrication.

How's that working out? My son has a 65 SX and it still fouls plugs occasionally on 60:1. I pray for the day he makes it up to a 250F.

TBD. I just picked it up (used) in early June. It's been torn down since as I dropped the forks off to get new seals and then proceeded to separate my shoulder and have surgery.

Hoping to get it back together next week when I am out of a sling and have some use of the arm. That said, I expect a number of fouled plugs as he's still learning a clutch and shifting. He's been tootling around on a CRF70 so it's a little bit of a jump up.
