Nice. What's gone wrong with it so we can laugh at you?
Oh just typical Land Rover things...
1) For about 2 weeks all of the cameras stopped working, then one morning I come out to the vehicle and the software has been updated and the cameras were back. The over the air updates are kind of annoying because every time it updates a couple of things get fixed but something else breaks. It's very microsoft of them.
2) Just had the windshield replaced for the second time in 4 months. It makes the third windshield that has been in the vehicle. Apparently it is a very common problem and something to do with the slope of the windshield?
3) On the bigger motor models (P400), which mine is, the smallest wheel option was a 20" wheel. I thought I will get around to putting smaller wheels on it, just so I am not constantly hitting the wheels on rocks and stuff but it wasn't important because my offroading as seen above is not extreme. Just fire roads to get to campsites. But to put an 18" wheel on the vehicle you have to change the rear calipers, not the fronts. The rear's are bigger than the fronts, for what feels like the first time in vehicle history. Due to the 20" wheels I have now sliced a tire offroading and put rock rash on three of the wheels. Maybe I should stop driving by braille?
4) This is nit picky, but you can't start the car with your phone plugged in for carplay as it will freak out the radio/computer and lock it up completely. Then you can't adjust anything on the radio until you power cycle the vehicle.
5) The keyless entry doesn't work unless you are very close. What I mean is if you have the key in your pocket you have to either dry hump the door or give the door your best hip bump for it to recognize the key is there and to unlock the doors. Dealer says it works, that is just the working radius on all defenders and they don't know why.
6) Car doesn't like to start unless it detects the key in the driver seat or cup holder. Key can't be in the passenger seat to start the car typically, which is no big deal for me, but the wife leaves the keys in her purse and that goes on the passenger seat when she drives a car.
So while it really has been a fun car to own, the little stupid **** takes the ownership enjoyment down a lot. Luckily in this market I can actually exit a land rover without taking a huge cost of ownership hit. Might as well take advantage, but there isn't really another vehicle that checks all of the family boxes like it does. Neither the JL or the new Bronco have the size of the Defender internally, nor do they drive anywhere as nice.
