How long do you want to ignore this user?
2016 F250 6.7. Have an oil leak and I've see where the vacuum pump bolts will back out and cause it. Oil residue is all over the area so I figured I'd remove and tighten the bolts as I've seen in some YouTube video. Pretty easy process so What's the worst that can happen. Found out what is the worst.

Snapped the top bolt off when I went back in with it. Set the torque wrench to 7.5lbs (video said the spec is 89 inch lbs) and it still snapped.

How screwed am I? Don't drive it whatsoever screwed? Any ideas how to extract the rest of it out to run a new one in?

Looks like you have some room to work. I'd make some kind of jig and use a good quality drill bit to drill a centered hole big enough to get an extractor to catch or try a reverse thread drill bit slightly bigger than the pilot hole. May need a 90 degree drill to get in there. Maybe try to loosen the other bolts so there is not tension on it when trying to remove. Use a 1/4 drive in. lb torque wrench to reinstall.

What type of torque wrench was it that allows a torque of 7.5 ft/lbs? A 3/8 drive typically starts at 20 ft/lbs and a 1/4 drive is typically in/lbs.

If that's aluminum, use a mig to get some doodoo welds on top of remaining bolt and then weld a nut to the doodoo weld.

Hard to believe that broke so easily...

Only option is drill and tap.

Start with the left handed drill bits. If you have to go to the extractor, hope you don't break it too b/c they are made of some really hard steel. Don't ask how I know, it still gives me nightmares.

Success....drilled and used extractor. The torque wrench I have starts at zero. Hell if I know.....

I wouldn't trust the accuracy of a ft lb torque wrench below about 15. At that level, you use an inch pound one.

My 1/4" goes up to 200 in/lbs and 3/8" starts at 20 ft/lbs. There are a fair number of bolts on LS that take 18 ft/lbs...I round all those up to 20 lol

Same style of bolts are used on intake manifolds and will snap real real easy. Learned that the hard way as well.
