Yeah, adultery isn't a good look, lying about ending an affair to a spouse that took their vows seriously and decided to forgive you is even worse. Luckily she was pretty stupid and easy to catch. Says a lot when your own parents and siblings have to apologize for your behavior. I'm doing well now, happily remarried.

@Green2Maroon: It's the way to go! We have my Tacoma and the wife's '94 Carolla to choose from, the old guy gets the nod for city stuff. Looking at a prius to replace the corolla, but might go Subaru so we can still use it for camping when the weather is nicer.

My company car is a Subaru Outback. I drive 3K/miles a month in it and love it. Ours is the premium package and it has everything I'd want except maybe leather. Eyesight is a game changer. It takes much of the fatigue away from the daily drive. Mine averages close to 30mpg. If you can get past the fact it's not the coolest car on the road, you'll love it. They are just great cars. The ones that are lifted with BFGs don't look bad at all imo.

We have a TJ so can't really compare to the newer ones, but, commuting in a Jeep would suck.

I'm sure OP wants a Jeep cause bro but they do look good lifted....but I'm a Subie and wagon fan so I'm biased. This would be way more comfortable, have close to comparable ground clearance and much more reliable.

I had a Jeep rental in Hawaii last week and I can see the appeal, but I'd get a 4Runner or Taco before a Jeep all day.

What lift and tires do you have on yours? One of the reasons I was leaning away from an Outback is because of the complaints my neighbor has had about his. He said he wouldn't get one again. So that's when I was looking at the other options and I'd just heard that the 4Runner was a dog in the mountains- although you do see them all over up here.

That's not mine, I saw it in Pagosa and the owner said she just bought it like that at a dealership in San Antonio. I see this dealer installs this lift kit but not sure about the tire size.

I bought a Subaru in 2013 because of their reputation of reliability and had nothing but problems with it. We replaced 4 axles (front and rear) between 2013-2018 when I finally had enough. Every 25-30k miles it would start squeaking and shaking like a mofo and we'd take it in. Always under warranty, so it never cost me much, but still was a huge pain in the ass.

I have had good luck with 2015 and 2018 Subarus. No major issues. Couple minor recall issues taken care of for free, but you get that with any car brand these days, and I've found the loacal Subie dealers much better to work with than other brands I've had to deal with in the past.

Much better for commuting than a Jeep, more comfortable, smoother quieter ride, great on wet/icy roads, and perfectly capable of the vast majority of off roading most people actually need to do.

Never thought I'd be a "Subaru Person" but they've been very good vehicles for my family at a much lower price than similarly appointed competitors. Great safety ratings too.

What year is your neighbors? My previous company car was a 2017 Legacy that we purchased for my son. It now has 90K trouble-free miles. My wife liked it so much she traded her Expedition for a 2018 Outback. Zero issues so far nearing 40K. My Outback is a '20 with 20K miles and perfect so far

Do what I have done, and buy two cars. Get a Wrangler for doing Wrangler things, or to have for fun short drives. Then get an economy car (Focus, Jetta, etc) for the daily commute. The Wrangler is loud and not terribly fun for long drives on a daily basis. However, you can always drive the Wrangler in bad weather.

I found that the gas savings for a cheaper car more than paid for the extra insurance on a 3rd vehicle.

Thats what I do. I have my Xterra build for fun and my Fit for work or long distance driving. Yes, I am cheap but I refuse to burn cash via depreciation. The "joy" of driving something new isn't as good for me as the satisfaction of driving something I know inside out and can fix everything on. That is me.

Also, imho a 4 runner has plenty of power if you have reasonable expectations for driving in mountains. It's not a sports wagon pretending to be an suV. Leave on time, mellow out going up steep passes.

You can buy a very nice certified Lexus GX under $40,000. Probably a 2017 model. Very nice, and very dependable.

Well was just about to get a 2017 Overland JGC last night and came out to a Ford Dealer in Littleton today and driving out with a new 2020 Explorer XLT. Definitely doesn't have all the bells and whistles the Jeep did, but I think it's overall the right decision.

Tell me about the deal you got on the Explorer. I'm in Lakewood, have a 2014 Explorer that I might trade

$40k was msrp. Got it for just under $35. They are doing trade in assistance of $2000 so I got $7500 for my 2012 F150 with 176,000 miles. Not saying it was a steal but felt okay. And with 0%, that kind of kicked it over the top, rather than getting a used car.

Actually when I was talking with my wife outside the salesman came out and threw in another $1000 for the trade-in.

I'd get a RAV4 Adventure grade and put some good AT tires on. Unless you're truly wanting to do jeep bro things. I think the new models get over 30 mpg which would suit the commute well. And of course Toyota reliability.

Sounds like you made a good practical choice.

I love my truck due to being able to throw gear in the back and ngaf how dirty the bed gets. Tons of fun messy options of things to do in CO and can handle any weather. Annoying as hell in Denver to drive, but wife has the practical car for trips like that.
