Here's a list of the best speeders in Texas.

The List

Apparently the Houston Chronicle used to do it, but didn't this year. So this site did and got the answers from TxDOT finally. Only from DPS (no city/county cops), but assumes they couldn't really beat this.

#1?

2003 Porsche 911

166 MPH in 75 zone (I-40 in Carson County)

There was an 2013 F-150 in Fort Worth doing 150 MPH.

Sadly, no Chevy trucks on the list... But one Camero driver said "DRIVER ADMITTED HE WAS RUNNING LATE TO WORK AND THOUGHT HE WAS GOING 130 MPH NOT 137 MPH"

The F-150 driver should easily be able to disprove that. Such bs that speeds can be estimated by the officer.

#2: 162 mph in a 75 mph zone
  • Date: 4/4, 10:56pm
  • Vehicle: 1994 Honda Motorcycle
  • Road: I-35 in Williamson County (30.8071330, -97.5895200)
  • Traffic: Light
  • Notes: N/A

#3: 160 mph in a 65 mph zone
  • Date: 4/15, 6:02pm
  • Vehicle: 2008 Suzuki GSX
  • Road: US-54 in El Paso County (31.8928600, -106.4129940)
  • Traffic: Light
  • Notes: N/A

What this is saying is that when I hit 164 on Highway 6 on my '02 GSX-R back in '03, I probably would have been the fastest in the state.

Technically, best speeders in the state didn't get caught.

Years ago I hit 140+ in my CTS-V1 on SH-47 on my way to Riverside campus which would have put me on this list

Before 47 was opened, my fellow Bryan High delinquents and I would move the barriers and race out there. Unfortunately, I was driving a 1990 Nissan Hardbody, so it wasn't very dramatic.

The 4.56 gearing limits me to 125-ish @ 6500 or 134-ish @ 7000, not sure where the limiter is right now. However, that sum***** pulls hard all the way to the limiter and feels like hitting a wall when you get there.

I'm pretty certain you were headed out there for the same reason our class of jackwagons were.

The out-and-back on that road were always turned into "race day."

Dr. M was none too happy with us sometimes.

Can I get an honorable mention for getting a warning for 96 in a 60 in my Mustang?

Lights out
1973 Monte Carlo
Hale county
Sometime in 1974

They didn't catch me. Roadblock. I thought I was running from someone out parking, looking to beat my butt for interrupting. If I'd known it was cops, I could have hit a dirt road and they would never have caught me.

I'm impressed you were brave enough to run a MC at 120.

Hey, it was one of those huge 2nd generation ones and I was 19 and invincible

Besides, I'd had the previous car, a '67 Impala 4 door past 120 indicated

My daughter wins, though. She's broken the sound barrier.

I got passed by a constable once doing 68 ina 35 in highschool on a 2 lane blacktop out in the country. I guess he had somewhere to get to.

I've had 2 cars over 120: a '76 Impala -- similar in body style to the MC but a little longer. The early '70 Carlos were longer than the later models. Mine the 350 like maybe a few MC, possibly only the SS models later, but I agree both would be a little skiddish at that speed. And my current Maxima, which can handle that speed with almost no issue.

I love some of the notes for the motorcycle ones, they all read like the biker thought for a hot minute they could outrun them then chickened out.

I have a former employee who became a DPS officer in West Odessa. He has since quit that gig, but he said motorcycles would often run and get away. Even a Harley is tough to run down in a Crown Vic or a Tahoe.

i believe it, i've seen all the crazy GoPro All Stars on youtube who outrun the cops, pretty nuts.

i had a 95 Lincoln Mark VIII that shut off at 140. i rarely drove it that fast but one time i was late and in a big hurry. I pulled out and passed a line of 7 cars that was going 65. Passing them at 140 was like meeting another vehicle going the opposite direction when both vehicles are going 65.

I've taken the wife's 2013 Volvo S60R over 135, The car was fine with it but my nerves weren't.

115 in a 55 in the early '80's. 1962 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door sedan with a newly rebuilt 318 V8. Took a bit of road to get that fast. Shut it down rather than race a train. Could see the road through the rust holes in the floorboard.

I took my 1999 z28 up to 142 on 30 headed east between 360 and loop 12. I was mad I couldn't get to 150 so I tried again and hit 146. With the t-tops on that car it felt like a spaceship was about to have lift off.

My first car was a 91 300zx and I had it over 120 plenty of times and maybe cleared 130 once.

The best stretch I've found is westbound from Beaumont towards Houston.

My B7 S4 crested 140-150 mph with ease

170 on my GSX-R 750, but I was on a closed road. I've had my Mustang up to 152 years ago , but it won't go that fast anymore since I lowered the redline when I supercharged it. Gets to top speed a lot faster now though. Unfortunately fifth gear is just too tall to accelerate at that speed.

155 on the Westpark Tollway in my '04 C5Z06

Still had so much, but those slight curves are a bit pucker inducing

Previously was 150 in my CTSV1 on Hwy 6...the hood was fluttering and mirrors shaking lol.

Pre supercharger I got my JKU up to 90...THAT felt like breaking the sound barrier!

There's a Ford Focus on the list at #41.

I would think it would start to fall apart over 100 mph.

Crazy...
