2011 Toyota Sienna-124K

AC been blowing too warm(not hot) for a while. Bought a gauge set. Added some refrigerant. Pressure (high side) came up and temp went down a bit. High side pressure was still a bit low compared to what I found online. That was 2 weeks ago.

This weekend I checked pressures again, about the same as two weeks ago under similar ambient temp/humidity conditions. Added a little more refrigerant to get pressure up where it was supposed to be. No change in temp.

The compressor clutch disengages when the AC is off or the pressure switch is disconnected. However, when running normally it NEVER disengages. The clutch is constantly running if the AC is set to on, never cycles off. Blowing 60 degrees out of the center vent. Low side pressure moves between 45 and 55, high side between 190 and 210ish. That was at 90deg and 50% humidity outside. Condensor is in good shape but I cleaned it anyway. New cabin air filter.

Anyway, I don't know what my next move is. Do I need to have it evacuated and properly charged by weight with some dye so i can look for a leak? I added a whole 12oz can 2 weeks ago and another partial can this weekend. Is there a way to definitively diagnose a bad compressor? It looks relatively accessible if I need to swap it out.

Anyway, this is the car my wife and kids drive daily, and we will be on the road a lot in about a month with soccer starting up again so need it to work as it should. Blowing 60deg just doesn't keep up with the outside temps.

Try changing the fuse on your horn. That should work.

Are all the vents blowing about 60 degrees ? Or are the passenger or driver's side showing a difference between them ?

Also did it just gradually stop blowing cold or just all of a sudden start blowing warmer?

Current temps in your location ?

On your other ac thread it says max left center ac discharge temp of 58-61 degrees assuming 90-100 outside

It was a gradual warming. All vents are blowing within 2 degrees. My CRV blows about 45-50. The Sienna is blowing 60-65. Definitely warmer than it should be blowing, and warmer than it used to blow. I've tried to have similar ambient conditions each time I've worked on it. 90-95 and 50% humidity.

If the freon level is right, I'm wondering if a blend door/actuator is having an issue. I had that issue once on a ford where the heat worked fine but A/C was still warmer at full charge because the flap wasn't closing all the way from the heater core box. Is rhe condenser fan running when you turn the ac on ?

25-40 degree differential with outside air is pretty normal depending on the vehicle design and age. 40 degree is ideal, but not all systems can sustain that on a humid July day when it is 100F outside.

I'd suspect a blend door malfunction or a partially blocked evaporator coil or condenser coil. If you are getting good pressure differential across the orifice/expansion valve with adequate coolant, then it's a matter of not enough air is getting cooled or pushed through the vents from the evap or the condenser can't dump enough heat to the atmosphere.

Is your condenser fan working properly?

JP76-Level was definitely low when I first topped up a couple weeks ago. High side pressure was very low like around 100.

MouthBQ-Condensor fan is working properly as far as I can tell. It seems to run all the time same as the compressor. There is just a very little temp difference between sitting still and driving. 1ags recommended a foaming cleaner for the evaporator which I have not yet done, but have ordered the kit. I brushed out the condensor but it appeared to be in good shape overall.

Any way to test for a blend door? Is that a PITA to replace behind the dash and all?

You verified the blend doors are working correctly, yes?

Perhaps not. How would ido that? When I switch to heat it definitely blows hot.

What about a stuck expansion valve? My van has one in front, and one in back.
