[wiping egg off face]

Well, it didn't go as well as I hoped. the good news is someone else is responsible for hauling that thing out of there tomorrow, ha.

This was a roll of the dice so it's hard to say what I should have done differently for better results, but for starters I think registering late and only getting web coverage (listing, pictures, etc) until 1pm on the last day didn't help. I think it should have gone Thursday with the other similar Defenders. there was one that was junk and it sold for $13750 - mine should have been $7K more than that.

The big question is this: do I do it all over again?!

Sorry it didn't get what you wanted - really cool truck and I'm sure the new owner is happy.

I would agree with you that going late in the auction, and getting it entered late, probably didn't help. I was surprised at the number of Land ROvers in the auction - going early might help as a result.

On to the next vehicle adventure, right?

Well I have a pretty good idea as to who sold it...

What did it sell for?

It also sold for $14,300 with buyer's premium (just like the Land Rover).

Yes, the huge value add of Mecum vs those other outlets is the sheer reach/size of the Mecum marketing machine. But you need to get in early to see the big benefits.

It seems like a Mecum is a good place to pick up a decently rebuilt classic for a good deal.

Unless it is an American Muscle car, I wouldn't sell it at Mecum.

BringaTrailer.com is the way to go, assuming you are willing to put the effort into engaging the audience/peanut gallery.

Here's a real piece of **** that was sold at a Mecum auction...

I'd think twice before buying anything there without inspecting, researching, etc etc.

Wow that seems low, but I'm not exactly an expert on trucks that old. Maybe it was too customized?

I can't believe I sat and read that entire thread last night. Hopefully I'll remember to check back later to see the outcome.

Very nice Mustang. Excellent color and those cars with that motor are hard to find

Guy spends $130K for a '59 23 window VW Bus from Mecum. Turns out it's a bunch of other buses poorly cobbled together with an altered VIN applied. Lawsuits ensue so there's near zero info beyond the pictures that were posted.

I didn't read the thread on the bus, but 23 window buses are the holy grail of VW buses. And they are worth craploads of money. If someone kluged one together, wow what a fraud. They need to go to jail.

Mecum doesn't follow up on any of the sellers' claims during registration (in my one experience). They asked me to fill in the make/model/specifics on the vehicle and never mentioned anything re: verification or confirmation that my info was correct.

I'm surprised that auctions like this aren't full of fraud and cars with secret problems.
