2015 Chevy Tahoe with captain back seats. Rear seat belt is stuck/locked in the retracted position to where I can't pull it out at all. Can't even push it up or back in either. Leaving for vacation and need to secure car seat. Any tips?

Have you tried keying truck on/off?

Sure did. No luck.

My dad had this issue years ago. He got pulled over for no seatbelt and told the cop that if he could get it to release he'd wear it.

The cop let him go with a warning.

Dealership just called and said $700 to fix it. No way and how would this not be covered under warranty? I got a bumper to bumper extended warranty to 100k when we bought it. Any thoughts or videos online of how I could manually fix? I can't find anything.

I'd call Chevy, it'll be a whole lot cheaper for them to fix yours free than to recall all of them for faulty seatbelts if something goes wrong

Yeah I may try that. Service guy had never seen this before. Our extended warranty did not cover safety restraints (of course). Just seems like a basic part of the vehicle that shouldn't break 2 years in (especially being a safety item).

I'd call corporate and see what they can do. Safety belts most definitely, you'd think, should be covered.

IIRC most manufacturers warranty their seat belts for 5 years/unlimited miles.

Read your manual.

WORST case scenario, you pull the panels off and remove the seat belt and send it to one of those repair places that offers 24 hour turnaround and have it repaired for 100 dollars.

I had my 95 FZJ80 seat belt webbing replaced (it was frayed) and they cleaned the mechanism for 100 dollars.

Scissors or an exact-o knife should do the trick

A dealer not wanting to fix a safety item under warranty seems pretty strange.

I had a very similiar seatbelt issue on my truck that was barely out of warranty and the dealer fixed it for free without hesitation

I think I'd ask another service writer or go to a different dealer.

I've contacted corporate and they're having a 'senior advisor' call me to discuss. We'll see what they say.

It's in their best interest to fix a safety belt on any of their vehicles no matter how old. If you raise enough stink, I think they'll do it for free.

I've heard of Ford fixing seatbelts in 10 year old trucks. Mine needs it right now. The drivers belt self-releases all the time.
