im now at a computer and will present my minivan manifesto

it's the best ******* car ive ever owned. it's got a ****ing chill box to keep things cold. only bad thing is that i once forgot a left over grilled cheese sandwich we had on a roadtrip and it stayed in there for like three months. ive got stow and go seating. the seats up front somehow seem farther away from the back seats so i dont have to hear my kids screaming (if/when they scream). ive got automatic doors. ive got three carseats in there and can easily fit four adults in addition to three kids which is about the ratio you need for survival.

if youre looking for a baller ass people mover that says "dont give a **** if you think i've lost my man card because you know what it's tucked in my wife's purse for whenever i need it" then a minivan is the way to go. wear it like a ******* badge of honor. you are man. you have procreated. you have spread your seed and now need a wagon by which to move your progeny as well as two strollers, a ever ready diaper bag, and a pack and play.

Agree. You buy a van for the category he gave it an A for not all his other ridiculous nit picky stuff. I'm 6'3" and the only time I've hit my head on the tailgate is while parked on a slope.

He'd have a total cow with the T&C and other vans applying those critiques to them.

We have an Odyssey and rent vans when we travel thus I've been in most. T&C is badly underpowered and loud. Sienna is one noisy cabin and the 8th seat is an absolute joke and could use a little better power. The Kia comes in second to the Odyssey for me. Haven't driven the new Pacifica.

Yep. And let also say, I went from a Tahoe to an Odyssey and it's no comparison. The leg room and comfort level of the Tahoe isn't even in the same universe. My daughter is 6' and my son is 6'3" and their knees were always in the back of the front seats in the TAhoe. AND my third kid is tall for 11 and the third row seat in the TAhoe was an absolute joke, and don't even get me started on the 'trunk' space behind the 3rd seat.

2200 miles in on a Pacifica Limited. It hasn't even caught fire yet so I have that going for me! It's been the right tool for the job. Very happy with the decision.

We have a 2013 Sienna and love it. It's been on two 2300 mile road trips, handled ice in snow in Calgary well for two winters, and had no problem hauling 4 adults 4 kids and all our gear on a ski trip. It doesn't have as much of the fancy gadgetry as other vehicles but it meets our needs. The ride is really comfortable, visibility is great, and you can haul a ton of stuff.

I recently got a used 2011 Durango Crew (V6 AWD) and I'm having some buyers remorse. I only drive it about 20 miles a day and it has nice technology but it's not nearly as utilitarian as the van. The Sienna also has a much more responsive engine and transmission.

Just picked up a new Pacifica Limited last night. We traded in a 5 yr. old VW Routan. When we bought the Routan... we thought it would be the first and last minivan we would ever own. With 3 little kids however, they are so incredibly handy that the wife wanted another one. Needless to say... the Pacifica is pretty awesome (in minivan speak). I don't rule #1 often... but here you go. (BTW - sorry I'm using Imgur - can someone hook me up and post the pic? - thanks!)

While I'm at it - I've also included Rule #1 compliance on my 3 month old Tundra.

I called the dealer and I have ordered a Pacifica Touring L. Should be here in 6-8 weeks. Cannot find one with what I want in like a 500 mile radius or something.

So I will Rule #1 when I get it. First time I ordered a car.

Odyssey owner (well my wife drives it). It's a 2014 that we got new and have been pretty happy with.

The shift/cylinder issue that otherwise crap review talked about is the only thing I have an issue with. None of that other stuff really pops up at me.

Are there vehicles with better tech? Probably but I also have 3 kids under 7 which means an environment slightly less hostile to electronics than a sand blaster.

A mini van is like a good hammer...a tool for a specific job. The odyssey does a great job.

Second place vehicle when we bought was a Toyota van.

My kids are teens now, and I used to roll in a Sienna, but this made me jealous. You millennials have everything.

Minivans are a good tool for the right purpose.
We had two in our "life" when the kids were younger. A 1998 Chrysler Town and Country LXi and a 2004 Honda Odyssey EX(?).

The Chrysler was nicer riding/quieter van than the Honda, but.... like a Chrysler.... started giving me mechanical fits when it hit 80,000 miles... electrical, transmission, etc... Got rid of it for the Honda. Sold the Honda when the oldest kid started college. Honda ran well for the 6 years we owned it.

Agree with a lot of the folks commenting here about all the nice features you get in a vehicle today...I had to drag the shop vac out of the garage to clean up all the crap that somehow ended up in the van. Though the Honda did have a drop down DVD player....Oooooooh....

HEY!

My first car was only 15 years old when I got it (and drove for another 12 years...) I also only had 135k or so when I started (and finished at like 215k)

The current car was 12 years old when I got it and had only ~150k on it when I got it (and the odometer stopped at 213,426 3 years ago; estimated 265k+ miles...)

They aren't that OLD!

Which minivans can and can't handle a full 4x8 sheet of plywood? A requirement for the next vehicle we purchase.

I really don't want a minivan but hate to look at the prices of 3rd row SUVs and trucks. It is getting annoying every time grandparents or friends are in town having to take two cars with our 2 kids in car seats (+ we probably will have a third eventually)...

Apparently this is for sale in Austin. Could be a bit better than a minivan. And your kids would love rolling out of this one!
