My tundra doesn't really fit in my garage because the tray that steps up was made too wide. If the front or rear tire is there, I can't close the door. I was able to use some plywood to ramp to it gradually by putting progressively shorter pieces on top of each other. I made a stop with a 2x4, with braces that go to the wall so it stays in place. Haven't hit the wall yet, so there may be hope for you if you use your imagination.

The appearance allows me to stay true to my East Texas roots.

229" garage owner here. Single bed XLTs apparently don't exist in dealer lots in Colorado. Do you have to order them?

I was serious! 381/400 in a single cab hauls booty. Just bought an IS300 (needed a back seat) so now the Tundra is on the market.

That's what I'm working with as well. A double cab Tundra is supposed to be 229", so I'm hoping that I can make it work.
I've never owned anything other an Ford and Chevy. What are thoughts on Tundra as opposed to Ridgeline?
The Tundra is a real truck and the Ridgeline is a niche product for older suburban dads who occasionally need haul something or tow a small trailer or boat but want something with car like ride and handling and truck like looks. The Ridgeline is more of a modern take on an El Camino or Rancho and not a work truck.

I would say any truck less than 19 feet long..

I'm in the same boat. I've got a 235" garage, and I'm looking to buy a double cab Tundra that is going to come in around 229". Assuming that there is the same or greater distance from the front bumper to the front tires, it should fit. Does anyone know of a good place to rent one for a few hours to ensure that it fits without going to a dealer. I'd rather spend money on it than waste time at a dealership or take a salesman to my house.

Started looking into the tundra. I assume you meant the crewmax?

The four-wheel-drive CrewMax sits on a 145.7-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 228.7 inches. It is 79.9 inches wide and 75.6 inches tall. The ground clearance is 10 inches. The cargo box is 22.2 inches deep, according to TruckTrend.com.
The Double Cab model sits on either 127.4- or 140.6-inch wheelbase, depending on the cargo box size. Its overall length is 208.1 or 221.3 inches, with a width of 74.6 inches and height measuring 70.1 inches. The bed depth is 18 inches, according to TruckTrend.com.

The extended cab should fit, but not the crew cab.

So the numbers above give me couple inches to spare...but only a couple inches. I see bumper into wall in my future.
I have a 2005 FX4 SuperCab I bought new. At 229.8" it just barely fits in my garage. I approach the garage very carefully and the front bumper is flush against the wall when I stop. It has worked fine so far.

Eventually, though, I will need a new truck and I'm not sure the new ones will fit at 231.9". I don't know why they have to keep making them bigger and bigger.

Same thing with my Tundra.

Wondering what you ended up doing here. Tundra work?

Waiting on a better rebate before I do something. I don't like the black TSS wheels, so the rebate is only $500.

A friend is bringing his Tundra over in a couple weeks to see how it along with my wife's tahoe fit in the garage. Fingers crossed it works bc I really dont want a midsize.

Let me know how it works. I'll post back here if I try to fit one in my garage as well.

Does your garage have a curb on the back wall that sticks out a couple of feet? If so you'll need to take that into consideration if you plan on parking going forward - your tires will hit the curb and stop you while you still have a foot or so to pull forward. You don't want to have to give it gas to get up on the curb to score those last few inches.

If you DO have the curb you better plan on backing in. Get a spotter, back in as much as necessary, then hang a tennis ball that hits your back window in the right spot. Then make sure and back in straight every time, because if you back at an angle your tennis ball measuring stick is off.

We have a Tundra Crewmax and it will fit in ours, but we have the curb issue mentioned above. On top of that, backing in is not really an option due to the layout of the garage.

I either need to build some sort of gradual ramp to get up the curb without having to gun it or just forget about ever parking in the garage.

Then buy a truck and park it in the driveway. I don't get why you want to fill the garage to the brim. It will be really hard to move around the vehicles.

A tennis ball on a string would work. Position the tennis ball perfectly and when it touches your windshield you stop.

I was able to test drive a DC Tundra this morning, and it fits in my 235" garage with ~5 inches to spare if it's backed in.

Pick one you like, drive it to your house, see if it fits. Return, repeat.

Well...

  • Not getting pollen, sap & bird crap on your truck
  • Need to wash less often (above + general layer of dust)
  • Paint lasts longer when not baking in the sun all day, every day
  • Much nicer to get into a truck that's 80F instead of 120F (or in the winter, 50 instead of 30)
  • Don't get drenched when it's raining
  • Lower risk of vandalism/theft
  • Much nicer to do oil changes, maintenance/repairs/etc. indoors

The list goes on... I don't know why anyone would not prefer to park in a garage, given the opportunity. Even with a workbench and other stuff along one wall and a row of boxes I really need to get rid of along the other, I can park my car head-in and back my truck in (so both driver's doors open to the center aisle) and have plenty of room.

Looks like the Dodge Ram 1500 is the same length as the tundra & seems to be substantially cheaper. Might have to start looking there was well.

I don't know if you can even upgrade/install an aftermarket unit in the new RAM trucks. I think there's a lot more than just radio stuff that runs through there.
