Oh damn, I've been away from the board for a day & missed this. I never met him (like most) but did see his NSX in the Bee Cave HEB parking lot a few years back. I posted asking if it were him, he responded saying "yes, should've found me& said hi"

He will be greatly missed.

Just learning of this. Stunned.

Used to get a kick out of everyone giving him a bit of a hard time for seeming to be everything Honda.

Wow.

I knew Dan.

He was one of my closest friends for nearly 40 years. We roomed together at A&M, fished the Florida Keys, were in each others weddings and so much more. He was everything you guys knew on these boards and so much more. I had the honor of speaking at his service but his children stole the show. All three of his kids somehow had the composure to stand up and share their thoughts on the type of father Dan was. Consider the generous nature, uncommon wisdom and knowledge that you saw on these boards and imagine the caliber of children he and his wife raised. What a testament to him.

I wish all of you could have been there.

Dan suffered a heart attack while swimming laps. He died from complications related to that event. We're all still stunned.

Its funny, as well as I knew Dan I never realized he was such a prolific contributor to these boards. I know his family has read many of the posts and have been buoyed by the outpouring of support. Your words have been a great comfort to me as well.

Thank you for your post. I hope you can convey to his wife and children how many people that he touched and how many people liked and respected him.

I never met him, but I respected the hell out of him.

He was a contributor on several boards. There are tribute threads scattered throughout the forums.

jln80,

Thank you for posting. Dan was well known on several boards, notably this one and the nerdery. He was one of the "regulars" on these boards, almost making him feel like family. We all knew of his beloved Ridgeline, the NSX, his audiophile knowledge, and just his likes/dislikes. He has been on my mind seemingly every hour since the news broke here - and I had never met him.

We're of course praying for the family and hope they find comfort in knowing their husband/father/son was well known and respected in this community. Our loss does not compare to theirs/yours, but he will be missed by all, like fighterpilot and the other posters we lost too soon.

Dan has been on my mind a lot lately too. Maybe because he was almost the same age as my dad, I don't really know. I always razzed him and gave him crap about his nitpicking, but deep down I thought it was great. He had his opinions, stuck to them, and didn't really care if you disagreed. I trusted his advice when it came to cars and A/V equipment.

I'm really gonna miss him around here.

I chatted with you briefly jln...it was a pleasure to meet you and your eulogy was very well done, I'm very sorry you lost your friend.

I'm going copy/paste what I put in the Texags Auto FB group on Friday after the service:

Just wrapped up Dan's memorial.
What an awesome man...over 200 overflowed the facility.
He was very much loved by his friends and family...truly someone passionate about life we should strive to be like.
I met his best friend...also an Ag...who actually mentioned Texags in his eulogy and even quoted some of Spice's posts.
Sad to say goodbye but I'm very happy I could make it.
All his vehicles were there...go figure!

I never met Dan...but you mentioned passion in your eulogy and you were right on...that man had a passion for vehicles and after experiencing the memorial he definitely had a passion for his family, work and hobbies...I wish I could have met him.

I don't post on the Automotive board, other than posts about Ridgelines. Frankly, I'm on my second Ridgeline largely due to his posts.

Truly sad. Amazing how things like Texags bring us together. Never met him in person. But respected his opinions and willingness to contribute. Still feels like losing a friend.

Godspeed Spicewood.

There were many times I've clicked on a mediocre thread because Spicewood was the last poster. You knew he would have something good to say. Thoughts and prayers go out to your family, sir.
