Talking to friends who have one or the other, the motors seem to get the same mileage.

Your mileage will be dependant on your driving style and rear axle ratio.

Do you plan on doing any towing?

There are now two Ecoboosts.

2.7L V6, 3.5L V6

and then the Coyote V8.

What are you going to be doing with the truck?

Waiting to test drive, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting the 2.7 Boost.

I'll pull an occasional trailer and the 2.7 will be fine. I had an 01 with the 5.4 and it pulled my Mustang without much trouble.

have the 5 liter v8 in my 2011 fx2. couldn't justify the extra cash for the ecoboost (3.5L) at the time. (my driving habits and milage made it not so cost effective) I test drove both though, and the ecoboost was quite fun to drive! That said, I love my truck!

Ecoboost isn't for mileage. Its a different feel. Hth

I bought the 5.0 for my 2012 F150. I didn't even test drive the boost because of the increased price on the motor. I know they have done all kinds of testing on it but more moving parts and more complexity under the hood usually means more problems and higher repair bills. Motor seems to be strong and works well around town and at the lease.

Just hit 107k problem free miles on my 2011 boost.
