How is the mini-van lifestyle (I didn't know it was a lifestyle) more BS than the SUV lifestyle? An SUV like a Tahoe costs more than a minivan, drinks more fuel, has less room for kids, but somehow strokes the fragile egos of people who want something "tough"? (usually in 2WD).

People load up Tahoes with 22s, DVD players, and leather. A Tahoe is 16ft. 10 in. long - the same as an Odyssey. Yet the Odyssey has 40 more cu. ft. of interior room.

Don't understand that at all.

It might have something to do with the fact that minivans are ugly as %#$&

In all seriousness thanks for the responses. I do recognize the utility of the minivan so it will definitively look at it as well as the SUVs.

As if a Tahoe is good looking....

A Range Rover is good looking. Not a Tahoe.

I don't get the minivan lifestyle and refuse to ever buy one. to me, if you require a van, you have too much **** and you've spoiled your kids to the point of failure, in that they can't travel without their own "captain's chair" and their mountain of toys and videos.

Sorry for being harsh, but the mini-van concept is too foreign to me to be able to understand.

Me owning a minivan has nothing to do with how much stuff my kids have or how much we carry around. It has even less to do with how spoiled they are, or are not. It simply has to do with 3 kids in a car seat ( not booster seats) is much easier to do with a third row. Getting to the third row to buckle in my son without climbing over seats etc is much, much, much easier in a minivan. I simply push the captain chairs together in the second row to allow an isle closest to the door where he can walk back there and I can reach him to make sure he is buckled. It also allows for much more flexibility if I have other passengers: more headroom, shoulder room and legroom if said passengers are adults.

Surely that concept is not too foreign for a person to at least begin to comprehend, even if it doesn't fit your particular needs or lifestyle.

Suburban. More vehicle, better ride, and pretty much the same price.

No offense intended to anyone but I find it strange that a Tahoe or Expedition is not enough room for a family of five. We have three kids and have never needed more room in our Expedition that makes many annual 5+ hour trips. We have had two in car seats at the same time and it was never an issue. Of course, we didn't opt for second row bucket seats as we knew that might cause issues down the road.

Another difference in the SUV vs. Minivan thing. Averaging 15k in milage yields around 800 - 1000 difference in gas costs.
