I'm actually going bigger turbo in a couple weeks in BecauseRaceKrautmobile.

I know, I pwn newbs constantly in one.

Them: "Jesus, what's that thing got in it?!"

Me: "An engine the size of a soda bottle. What's in yours, a V8?!"

2010 GTI, modded to the gills. Sippin' on that "lean" (meth) and about to get a bigger turbo for S&G's.

Seriously, going fast is expensive. So I'll just have one fast vehicle and the 'Publican will be look good, sound good.

Turbo 2.8? I like it, silvy.

Rob, which turbo did you decide to get? K04?
BigRobSA
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep. getting a sweet deal on one, so jumping on it. With meth and race fuel, should make close to 400hp.

And, a turbo 2.8 would be sick, if nothing else it'd be singularly unique.

Only thing is it wouldn't have the orgasmic sound of a tre fity and perhaps the issue of having a strong enough trans since I want a 5 speed and T5s are weak

Latest thought, find 4.3, Edelbrock intake, 500 CFM carb, Comp 270 cam and other needed valvetrain stuff for cam. Seems like fun with a 5 speed.

Would need different motor mounts and radiator

do it.

It'd be cheaper and easier, later 1st gens came with 4.3 instead of a 2.8 so for some stuff I could just run to a junkyard or order off Rockauto and it's shorter so I wouldn't have to mess with relocating the radiator or condenser.

Then it's lighter so the front end doesn't sit as low cuz hillbillybeachcruiser

To swap in a 4.3 you'd also need a new transmission, drive shaft (which I guess you were planning on anyway), rear end (the 4.3 trucks came with the 7.625" rear... you'd break the 7.5" in a hurry with a 4.3 or V8, not to mention you'd be doing 3500 RPM or so at 70 with the 4.11 or 3.73 you have now), and maybe weld new mounts onto the frame.

Not sure on that last part, but I know the frame mounts are different between the 4-cylinder and the 4.3. Although people seem to like using the 2.8 mounts and an adapter plate with their V8 swaps, so that might work out for you.

I see no point in swapping a 4.3 into your truck... the only extra work for a V8 over a 4.3 would be electric fans and engine mount adapters. Well, for a TBI 350 anyway... accessory placement of the Vortec or LS1 might be a bit problematic.

Diesel would be awesome but I don't think a 4BT is right for an S10. You'd have to run a hood scoop (that engine is *tall*) and do a lot of fabrication work; plus the 4BT is kinda weak stock (better with tuning, but more work for you). It's actually not much harder to fit a 6BT than a 4BT if you really want a Cummins. A VW TDI or BMW or M-B diesel engine would fit a lot easier and have about the same power, and blow away everything else on mpg. Cost just a bit more though. :p

So... go easy (3.4 drop-in), go big (350), or go awesome (TDI etc.) but I don't see the point of a 2.8-> 4.3 swap.

I want a 5 speed anyways lol

I still need to calculate what gears I have but I'm pretty sure they're not 3.73 or 4.10, it's an absolute slug down low but it's actually not TOO bad accelerating from 60 or so. It's seen 85 MPH and I had no problem holding it at that speed for 10 minutes or so. I'm unsure exactly how the mounts are but I'm sure they're plate adapters, I have them on my 5.3 also.

4.3 will easily clear accessories, condenser, and radiator...5.7 not as easy, if I didn't want A/C it'd be much easier but I already have one truck without A/C.

And like I posted earlier, a S10 with a factory equipped 350 wasn't made but they did come with a 4.3 so dealing with parts will be easier since I don't need special stuff. A SBC will also require the use of conversion headers, I can just pick up some factory manifolds.

I think a slightly built vortec 4.3 would be able to hold it's own

Both door panels are done, my $20 muffler has arrived...it looks like Imco's Flowmaster 40 knockoff, although it was described as a turbo muffler for $20 I don't care lol

I've confirmed that it has 3.08 gears and after doing some research I think a 3.4 is better option than 4.3, sorry for the stubbornness Drewmeister <3

What did you do, sand then vinyl dye? Might be the camera but it looks slightly purplish here. Gray armrest aside, looking good. Lot cheaper than buying new door panels than LMC. :-)

Good call on the 3.4 -- if that's your daily driver then you don't want to be out of pocket for a long time. You should easily be able to do this swap in a weekend, especially if you do some wiring ahead of time. You gonna use the MPFI from the Camaro or your carb intake? Personally I'd go EFI (especially if I got the ECM and harness with the engine) for more power and better mpg but it would be a little more wiring work.

The 3.08 rear end should be good with your stock tires and any engine you put in (as far as ratios, may not hold up to a lot of torque). Probably good for any tires you can fit in the wheel wells too.

Check this out: http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits.html GM ordering brochures going way back -- you can see how cheap your truck was (looks like about $7k new) and the available options, etc.

Sand all the rotted plastic off then Burgundy vinyl paint since supposedly it was a close match...but it's not, I'd say it's fairly maroon. I wish I had used something like Krylon for a glossier finish.

I'd like to go EFI (damn Rochester is giving me issues now) but really I don't want to mess with another FI swap in the near future, I can always do it later on. So instead I could run the 2 piece Edelbrock intake so I can run a Holley 390 4 barrel on top of it. A positive of the carb is not having to mess with PCM tuning since I still want to run a cam.

I don't think the 3.08 will handle 31's very well lol

31's on a 1st-gen 2wd? LOL, you gonna lift it?

This is how mine looks with 27" tires (215/70R15). Stock height AFAIK. With 31's I wouldn't be able to turn!

And yeah, if I ever drop the coin on repainting it, the cheesy 90's decals will be history...

Also armrests won't be gray much longer, the paint isn't flexible enough for the spot where my pointy elbow rests so I'll be taking it off eventually
