T&Ps.

Depends on how far you want to take it. Full restoration (frame off)? Restore to a driver? Restore to a Riddler level? Hot rod or refurb to original specs?

Need more info, but the short answer is probably a lot more than you are thinking.

Close to original specs. I was wondering what 10k might get me. I'm on mobile and lots of people here. Will add more pics and details later.

In the spirit of Christmas I retract my thoughts. Merry Christmas and it would be a pleasure to know you.

To me, restoring my Dad or Grandad's truck would help preserve their memory and be a nice tribute to them. I have a 66 C-10 that will get that treatment in the next few years.

Agreed, it's one thing to be sitting at his bedside deciding how everyone is going to divide up his millions (and if they have millions, be assured they have paid someone to help them decide before hand what to do with those millions). Restoring his truck is a great way to hold on to his memory and do something productive with something of his that is still here. If you were deciding what medium to post it on to sell it, that's wrong, restoring it is great.

10K would definitely get you off to a good start. If the engine and transmission were in good shape you could sink most of that into paint and body work and just repair mechanical items as needed.

Your labor is free, so the more you use of that the better

Get it running, driving and legal...then go from there

Looks to be in pretty decent shape, before you want new tires you should decide if you want new wheels.

That would be a fairly cheap project for just a resto, but a truck as common as those are best suited for a restomod IMO

10k would get a sh*t ton done no matter what you do with it, even more so if you work on it yourself. T&P for you and your family.

sorry to hear about your grandfather.

paint looks old but the body looks fairly sound from this angle. 10k should easily be enough, i bet you could spend a third of that and have a really decent truck if you were doing the work yourself.

T&P.

10 grand will do a lot, but probably not as much as you think.

Very sorry for your loss wareagle.

CATAGBQ and others have offered a very helpful thought for starting your project. $10K would get you a great start on getting your grandpa's truck the way you envision it... but simply getting it running, licensed, and drivable with good tires would let you tool around in it and then you can contemplate how to BEST spend the remaining $9,200.

Hey, looks like mine!

And 10k may not get you a full frame off, but it'll get you pretty damn close to stock. Important thing is to not expect your money back in resale.

Something like this will get you back to stock pretty quick:

Love it. This truck will never be for resale once I get my hands on it. I'll get it in good running condition and go from there. It looks like 10k or even less will get me close to what I'm looking to do.

What all are you wanting to do?

I just recently purchased a 1986 also for a restoration project...with a 10k budget too.

I just received the engine from summit. 290 hp crate.

I did all the bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc myself.

My recommendation would be to start with getting the driveline done first, then the a/c, next do the paint, then the weatherstripping, finally the interior,

Oh....keep the wheels, but without the white walls.

I too like the wheels, they probably need a fresh layer of paint though.

What color do would you do? If you want a basic color and don't mind a matte finish Plasti Dip is a DIY option that's cheap.

Here's what happens when you add white into blue Plasti Dip

An upgrade on that model I always wanted to do is to get rid of the saddle bag gas tanks and put a tank out of a suburban where the spare tire goes. Those saddle bag gas tanks were found to explode if you get side swiped.

Only if equipped with model rocket motors.

funny....I remember Dateline getting sued. They had ran the crash at higher speeds than reported, the tanks never ruptured or leaked...so they ended up using rocket motors to ignite and create the result they wanted.

People still believe that crap! My Dad wouldn't get me a 73-87 because of that stupid story so I ended up with a 91 as my second truck

Love y'all's restos of those old Chevy's! Back when trucks were trucks! May be my favorite model of truck ever. A 4wd with a little lift, well maintained is a great looking truck. One of my best friends had one in HS in peak condition. Wish he still had it.

10k more than enough. Sand and prep yourself and take to maaco. I just had engine for about 2300 and that was lunati cam and some extras. Paint Will run 500 or more if prep.no need for 3k paint unless you are building show truck
