How long do you want to ignore this user?
Here's the pics of my old/new 83 chevy (who knows how many miles but we guess 400k-500k). Hope y'all enjoy. Also hope the pics work.

It looks good, but you missed the correct top line...

your stripe is too wide, as the pinstripe should follow the edge that travels the body...

Yea I know. They didn't have the direct match in their books so I picked the closest one they had (but upside down) and told them to flip it. They forgot to do it, but I actually think I like it better this way. The thick stripe in the silver makes it more noticeable.

Side note: 2 weeks later I saw the older versions with original colors and they had 2 differing pinstripes. Weird.

Oh, there are 2 pinstripes. The thin is the border of the blue and silver. The thick is lower.

That color scheme came on Suburbans in the early 90's

Looks great, Lucky. The top line for the 2-tone on yours is correct for an '83. The picture TexasRebel linked is actually not correct.

Earlier ones, between 73 & 80, had the top line follow the body crease with the colors separated by bright trim. Check out this brochure from '77.

1989-91 K5s and Suburbans went back to having the top line follow the body crease, separated by a tape stripe.

But from 81 to 87 (and 88 K5s and Suburbans), the top line was a few inches above the body crease, separated by a tape stripe. This brochure from 82 illustrates:

All that work and the front bumper is messed up.

Find me an '80s pickup that had the line above the crease from GM, and I'll be quiet.

Blazer brochures don't count.

Damn, nevermind

I just found a picture of the blue on blue '84 my friend drove in HS...

My memory is bad

1ag,

Yea its a little bent from a girl in a z71 that backed up into the corner front end, locked bumper corners, and then try to pull my truck forward. Its part of the fender dent in the first pics.

Some time in the future its going to a chrome guy to get the kinks worked out of it. (unless your talking about the swirly license plate, then hah).

And I figured out what threw me off, too.

The op's paint line stays square to the front...

Thats actually something I didn't notice. I don't think I'll worry about it too much though, it's a little late to change.

I've been digging trying to find a pickup brochure image with the correct 2-tone for TexasRebel. Finally found one, so I'll go ahead and throw it up even
though he's now convinced.

For some reason, GM wanted to showcase the other popular 2-tone scheme in all the pickup literature. I'm talking about the scheme where the accent color
is below the bright molding and on the roof only. My dad had an '85 GMC black/silver like that.

oh it's a beautiful paint job, don't get me wrong...

I'm just a purist...

Which got me wondering... Where did the first picture I posted come from, I'm sure I've seen that 2-tone scheme on a factory 80's pickup before... but maybe the suburbans are clouding my memory.

that is an awesome looking truck

I had an 81 that I drove for about 6 years and the thicker stripe is right

mine was blue and silver....hopefully I'll have another one just like it some day

There are a lot of trucks that get repainted with the top line following the body crease like the one in the picture you posted.
I'm not sure if it's easier to mask off when the body line is that close for reference, or if they just want to emulate the look on the 89-91 Suburbans & K5s.
