you can push start some tf727s, I think power glides too.

Don't most manual transmissions have pumps and coolers these days? they get hot too.

they are becoming more common, but not necessary to prevent failure, just extend life...

they sure don't make them like the powerglide anymore...

I forgot the most important argument, its hard to eat a sandwhich and talk on the phone while driving stick. Well, unless you wear a blue tooth, but then you look like a ******.

I'll let the rest of the board hit this one

they can't roll start

how often do you need to do this?

they hunt for gears

good ones don't

they heat up
tranny cooler?

they're sloppy
the auto in my titan was anything but

they break
anything with moving parts breaks

Autos can be built to handle gobs of power and they allow for really consistent drag race times.

That's the extent of the "pros", manual is the only way to truly be "one" with any vehicle.

once is enough for me... however, I have been known to save my starter if I parked on a hill.

if it shifts without the user asking, it is hunting. Unfortunately, a transmission doesn't know what the road looks like ahead, nor the grade you are driving, nor the load behind it, nor your next move.

To me, driving an automatic rates right up there with towing with a chain...with nobody else to yell at.

just because you're adding parts to dissipate the heat... doesn't stop the generation of heat due to unnecessary fluid compression (100% inefficency) when stopped, and a fluid link when starting.

if you can change the engine RPM without a comparable change in vehicle speed... that is slop...it is inherent in the hydrodynamic class of power transmission...if your titan had a hydrostatic transmission, way to go...you drove a hydraulic stick.

they break
anything with moving parts breaks

so why not minimize it?

I thought of another one while driving home in the rain

- you can disconnect power from the wheels with a common motion... like when skidding through a turn, or hitting ice on a bridge.

A clutch is cheaper than a transmission

I dont do manual transmissions. So its really good that I was able to transfer my license without a test, otherwise Id have to have some special comment on my license here that its only valid for automatics, they view it as a 2nd class citizen here lol.

TexReb...check this out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvWPRpF_CTg

I used to sell trucks for a living, I went to the Allison test-track for training on their transmissions and got to drive the loaded Mack dump with an 8LL into the sand...went just as the video showed...I locked the axles, rocked it, tried low-low, higher gear with clutch feathering...and I buried it.

Allison walked right through it and also pulled me out...AND that chick in the video is the one that also pulled me out
