Stabbing occurred this morning. Ambulance just left, but police still there and they're on lockdown.

I've heard his name is Joe Ramirez and he was stabbed in the chest. This is what I've been told but have no way to verify.

He's in critical condition. The knife missed his heart but punctured his lung. S&W is taking O negative, non vaxxed, blood donations.

That's what I've heard too. His lung collapsed. Apparently, this all stems from so prom drama.

Absolutely awful day. My wife came home in tears. Devastating.

Up to 31k.

My wife says her students are strangely quiet today. Not focused but not distracting either. Sounds almost like campus after Bonfire fell.

It did not occur to me until this morning that we are at the end of the school year. Our graduating seniors had a normal Freshman year, lost the back half of their sophomore year, were forced to wear masks their junior year, and are leaving with this death. Ugh.

I pray for those families. As a parent I cannot fathom what the parents of the young man who died are feeling to lose their child to a senseless act. And for the family of the accused to know a life has been thrown away. Just makes me sick to my stomach.

Local police are very concerned that the murdered boy's father might do something bad because he snapped yesterday.

Hopefully not. This thing doesn't need to spiral any more out of control than it already is.

I don't know anything about either family or at least I haven't connected the dots yet if I do.

I'd be uncontrollable if Ingot that call though. Hopefully the old man calms down.

Agreed. I don't know the family but the lead detective coaches my neighbor's little girl softball team so that's just what I've heard.

So far the reactions from the kids seems to be, for lack of a better word, mature.

This broke my heart. It shows this type of senseless violence can happen anywhere. I know my kids worry now that I am at a big city diverse high school. However no school it totally safe unless you go to metal detectors. My current school is much like Belton High in that there are so many possible entrances and exits that metal detectors are simply not cost effective. After the Mansfield shooting this year we had a rented one for a day to see how it worked.. Students were only allowed in one entrance. And it took almost the full first block class to get them all checked through the single detector. I know that would be a similar challenge at Belton High. However ONE loss of life is one too many. God bless the teachers and students as they move on this year and for years to come.

Metal detectors are a logistical nightmare, IMO. drop offs at one entrance, bus riders at another and the countless other entrances. Should kids be waiting in line in a lighting storm? Kids apparently carry some type of protection anyway. That's the problem. Policies aren't being enforced because Timmy's mom might complain that Timmy's feelings are hurt and Suzy wants to wear ****ty clothes because that's how she expresses herself. I've recently heard countless stories of admin in the schools and admin office ignoring parents pleas to protect their kids. My heart breaks for both families in this tragedy. BISD could have taken steps to avoid this. Whatever security measures Susan implemented in 2017 have been thrown out but now suddenly reintroduced as if it's a new idea. And don't be naive. This crap happens at LBHS too. Read today's tdt article. All the way thru. The principal has emailed admin about non-gender bathroom locks not working. What happens in high school bathrooms? Violence and sex. A LBHS coach/trainer was recently escorted off campus because he watched porn AD on his phone and or laptop. It was obvious what he was doing. Kids snickered about it. Heck when prog and I were in school the MBB coach and a Spanish teacher were having an extramarital relationship and everyone knew…Way before social media. Needless to say their contracts weren't renewed. Enforcement of rules/policies is the first step.

I heard the funeral had a huge turnout which says a lot about the kid and the community.

Definite no to metal detectors.

I am at Arlington Bowie and loving it. I moved up here to be closer to my kids and grandkids since they were not moving to get close to me. Year 40 completed. Five at Bowie. I now teach AP junior English and IB senior English. And yes, the one-day attempt was to mainly prove to parents that a metal detector was not feasible in a school that has about 20 different entrances and exits. Bad things do happen in the restrooms..all over the country. Here it is more an issue about sneaking in to vape. We have one campus police officer from Arlington PD and then should have a number of campus security officers to watch all those exits and entrances. However due to the massive shortage of any kind of worker in education, we are short security officers, so they try to watch the entrances on camera. It is far from perfect.

I think a lot of this has only gotten worse since the COVID layoff kids. Kids with problems at home or kids who just had problems were isolated and it made those problems worse at times when they were hitting peak development. And now we are seeing the manifestation of all of that. I know a few prominent educators and school administrators that I am friends with who agree with this.
