BTW, Belton is now about 3 feet below conservation pool level, and rising

Should be in great shape for the summer

Great news

Just drove across belton dam. Looks fantastic and I'm sure it will rise more this week. Travis is up almost 30 ft this month. Buchanan is only up 2

Travis is likeky above 650 and looks to be increasing the rate of filling. I don't know what kind of rain they had over there but we just had a frog strangler in east Williamson County.

Rain needs to FLOOD tributaries in the shaded area that are BOTH ABOVE Buchanan dam, AND also BELOW any other dam to directly affect Buchanan

I don't understand why it isn't filling. I know Lamesa had more than their average annual rainfall in a week last month and other areas in that basin, like San Saba, have been getting a lot of rain.

Well, flood waters around lamesa, gail, and Snyder are caught, and stopped, by the lake Thomas dam. And below that is spence, which is piss near dry, so they aren't going to release any water that may come their way

Pecan creek has lake brownwood, and the tributaries around San Angelo are dammed up as well

So that leaves the San Saba basin, and it just hasn't had sufficient rain to create the runoff needed to raise Buchanan

I know, you look at the radar and think it has, but it just hasn't happened, although the Colorado at San saba is elevated tonight so Buchanan should rise a little over the next few days

Here's why Travis is up:

That would explain how Thomas went from .8% to 80% in the last month.

Yep

They have more water now than they've had in 50 years

Belton is a foot below conservation pool this morning and rising

Travis is up 33 feet since January, and rising today

Buchanan is up only slightly, with moderately elevated tributaries upstream

At least Buchanan is rising, about 1/100th of a foot every 30 minutes... Hopefully el Nino will continue to drop rain over Central Texas this summer to keep the level steady instead of it recessing again..

I could care less about lake levels right now. Hopefully El Nio sticks to the sip tears thread and gives me a break from the rain.

True. Water is overrated.

Aaaaannnnnnd...... conservation pool level for lake belton at 11pm

Great news, considering we were at or near record lows 2 months ago

Lake is in great shape for the summer and mazzag can now get back to work!!

I can't tell if folks are happy for recreational reasons or water supply reasons. But my silly phone app has other predictions. We'll see.

Here's a good website to track water levels.

It is definitely coming down in the Colorado basin above buchanan tonight, and is moving into the San Saba watershed

Buchanan is at 991.5 now

We'll see what happens

Hopefully it sputters out before Houston and at least goes light on Austin.

I think we're looking at 1-1.5" in north Austin. Probably pretty accurate.

However, the fast migration speed may yield less precip.

Looking forward to a good frontline storm.

rather be fishing,

You have got to have the most persistent case of insomnia on Texags

80% of your posts are around 2am, like clockwork

The rest are also in the early am

Travis seems to be leveling off at 667 which is 14 feet below full.

Not bad going into June.

Belton is 10 feet high today and will go higher. They cannot let water out because of fresh concrete just poured in their outlet basin Saturday, They are taking in 10,000 cubic feet of water per second (8 gallons in 1 cubic foot of water) more than they can let out.

yeah, and even when they start letting water out, it will only lower the lake approximately 3 inches every 24 hours. And that is without new inflows coming in. Drove to Temple Lake Park today, and it is closed indefinitely, possibly for a big chunk of the summer

Buchanan looks to be leveling off just over 996

Still way down, but better than the 986 it was in November

They poured concrete in the outlet works after a multi-year drought and can't release excess water now? NOW?
