Just had a text from a buddy that said they just went public with Bob Shipley as the new hire.

Yep. Just went up on the website and the email went out a bit ago.

Not mad about that. Good hire for us. Brings some much needed excitement back to the program.

Belton still with the sip ties, however.

Because he has won everywhere he's been.

I guess. I thought most on here were demanding playoff wins here and there. I think he wants a decent landing spot not far from Austin. Then he will move on. Just my opinion. The fight song ought to make him feel at home.

So who would you have been happy with? Belton just hired a guy who has always won. He's 125-42. Doesn't mean that he'll automatically win here, but at least they've hired a guy who has proven he can win more at more than 1 school.

Texas paid for his 2 sons education and then offered him a job making 6 figures. Can't hold that against him. It's not like he went to school there.

What do you mean can't hold it against him? I don't think its a character flaw, just don't like the sip pageantry at belton, starting with the fight song, now a former coach/manager or whatever. It is OK with you that I don't care for it, isn't it?

But who cares. Bob made two state finals at burnet, and was bout 65% everywhere else.

I'm not *****ing about him. I'm just questioning the hire. I had heard middle of March an announcement would be made. Now it's all wrapped up. His name will perk a lot of ears. His wins with his sons are good, without them very meh. He needed a job, we needed a coach. The Bell kid was intriguing to me, even if he played at baylor

I apologize. I should have used the word "question" instead of *****ing. No one has *****ed about his hiring. I just don't understand the "meh" attitude. He's a big name hire with a lot of success. I would have been fine with Rhoads too. I don't see how someone can hold it against him that his 2 sons were D1 talent. If that's the case then you have to hold it against most coaches.

Who knows? I don't really know what kind of talent is coming. I just want to see us competitive on both sides of the ball.

Heard from a committee member tonight that 80% of the committee voted for Shawn Bell so his name was turned into the superintndent. But, Shipley was hired. Seems like superintendent had her mind made up long ago. Not surprising coming from her.

Not surprised at all. Style over substance. A splash hire over a good hire. Some of you wonder why Belton can't be a better program with all we have.

This was a good hire.

What has Bell done? Not much.

Bellcoag, this wasn't the best hire possible. I have no doubt about that. But I would love to be wrong in a few years. This was a name hire. The superintendent wanted a name and that's what she got.

I remember when Bell was hired at Clifton. The CISD Sup was quoted in the news as saying that she was so happy Bell had come home. That Bell said that CISD wasn't just a stepping stone. I laughed so hard when I heard her say that. He was there for one year, went 3-7, and moved on to a bigger job.

Shipley is a splashy name, but Bell would've been just as big a splash. I don't think it was about the name as much as it was Dr. K was more convinced about Shipley being successful. I don't know why she would've picked him otherwise. Bell has done alright at Magnolia, but nothing special. There isn't much of a track record to see with him. From a non Belton perspective I think Shipley was a good hire.

Bell will get another big job at some point. I just hope it's not Midway whenever Gambill decides to leave. Just threw up in my mouth a little.

I like the fact that Rhodes is "all in" at the high school level. He does one thing -- he kicks ass, period.

There are plenty of points of debate regarding shipley. He's had great programs, good ones, and fair ones. He ditched the high school game only to find himself unemployed in short order. His teams without his kids have been fair, not great....

Maybe he's a good hire, maybe he's not. There is room for debate, including his credentials...

If that is true that she ignores the committee and went lone wolf, that is quite disturbing....

Saying he hasn't done much without his kids playing is about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. His kids were D1 players. Most coaches are better with D1 talent playing for them. Rhoads would have been a good hire as well because he's got a proven record. For everyone wanting Bell, what has he done? Nothing.

Also, I've was in the coaching world for 15 years. The Sup picking a coach regardless of the committee's recommendation is not a new thing or something that never happens. That goes on pretty regularly in the high school ranks.

In this case it appears the committee was put together to make a recommendation, but not render a final decision. Bell is a smooth talker. Maybe K saw something that the group looked past. The Sup had a compelling reason to hire Shipley and the decision ultimately comes down to her recommendation to the board. If the football coach doesn't do well it's a reflection on her hiring him, not the committee, whether it be Bell or Shipley. Not sure if I would say her decision is disturbing if it actually differed from the committee, but I think there is merit to some questions being answered if the committee did recommend Bell.
