How long do you want to ignore this user?
The "I miss Coxs" thread reminded me of an email I received awhile back so I though I would post it. It is rather long so I will break it up into four separate posts.

You're 'OLD WACO' if:

• You can remember either the Raleigh or the Roosevelt Hotel.
• You ever went to Williams Drug, Pipkin Drug, Otis Stahl Pharmacy, or Heights Pharmacy for a fountain drink or a "burger" at lunch.
• You remember watching Harley Berg, Marvel Russell, Dale ****ord, Doug Brown, Dub King or Johnny Watkins on TV.
• You ever got a "Possum Grin" on the Uncle Elihu Show or a "Zebo Gram" from Zebo the Clown.
• You can remember the balconies at the Waco and the Orpheum Theaters, Saturday Kiddy Matinees at the 25th St. or Texas Theater, and how cold the AC was at the Imperial.
• You remember Mrs. Keaton's Bakery or Robertson's Ice Cream.
• You went to a drive-in movie at The Circle, The Waco or even The Lake Air. Extra points if you remember "no one" ever went to The Joy.
• You ever played pool at The Businessman's Club. Extra points if "Rabbit" racked 'em for you.
• You ever "bowled" on Austin Ave., Franklin Ave. or even at Southgate.
• You can remember what was in the basement at Montgomery Wards.
• You made "The Drag" and then went to "flip flop" or to the Griddle, or maybe even out to Kim's. Which school, which hangout?
• You ever bought a gun or jewelry at one of the "hock shops" on Austin Ave., a block off the square.
• You ever had breakfast at Bertrand's or Picadilly Downtown or dinner at George's Chef.
• You know and can describe where you were when "The Tornado" hit. For extra points know and describe where your parents were, too.
• You've ever been to "Walker's" Auditorium. Or maybe the "Nite Life Club".
• You can remember where "The Brass Rail" used to be.
• You can remember the frozen "chopped steak" dinners from "7-11". Curb service too.
• You've ever bought gas @ 13.9 cents a gallon.
• You've drank artesian water from Progress Laundry.
• You rode the Smoky Hollow Railroad in Cameron Park.
• You remember driving over the "Suspension Bridge".
• You've read both the Waco Times Herald AND the Waco News Tribune.
• You remember Spudnuts.
• You watched the Waco Pirates in Katy Park.
• You listened to 1580 "KBGO, the Big GO in WACO".
• You remember "FlyTAF" and Connally A.F.B.

What about Cogdell's Field and Stream and Monings Mens Wear.

Also, Lake Air Mall was the first air conditioned mall in the State of Texas. Always remeber going there during Christmas to look at the Christmas decorations in the mall. A trip to Waco from Temple was a big deal when I was a kid.

I didn't grow up here but do remember several of them.

We spent TONS of time looking at fishing lures at Cogdell's!

I worked with a woman whose husband and brother were killed in the tornado and she said you never forget a thing like that

Ol Waco Ag,
you might know this. There is a place on the corner of Waco Drive and 26th street called Kim's burgers. It has an old-fashioned looking sign out front. I loved their burgers, but everytime I walked into the place, I got the distict feeling the place used to be a Shoney's Big Boy (Or was it Stuckey's Big Boy). Do you or anyone who has lived in Waco long enough to know if the restaurant was a Big Boy? My mom said she rememebr a Big Boy on Waco drive when she lived there in the 60's...

She also said there used to be a Burger Chef. Where was it and does anyone have pictures of either place from that era?

Consol,
I don't remember Waco ever having a Big Boy, but could be wrong. In Texas they were known as Kip's Big Boy. Here is a link to Widipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Boy_(restaurant).

I think the restaurant that was at 26th & Waco Dr. before Kims was a more upscale type place and not a burger joint, but I could easily have it confused with something else.

I do remember a Burger Chef, but can't remember where it was located.

I remember Cogdell's. The Green Stamps store was next to it if I remember right.

I was also the mall Santa at the Lake Air mall in '91.
