I remember the first time I caught a wave in Florida, near Jacksonville. Anyway, I though I was about to be swallowed by a shark only to discover the large object chasing me was the shadow of my board. Beautiful water and sand.


I did the same thing the first day we were there. Waded out into the water, saw my shadow out of the corner of my eyes, and freaked out because I thought it was a sting ray. Damn clear water made me look like a fool!

Yep, Texas surfers, afraid of their own shadow because the've never seen it before.

My other strange memory of Florida surfing was everyone saying "you guys". They must have all come down from Jersy. (Not that that's a bad thing.)

Here is me (in all my glory, ha) and my cousin at Strandhill in Ireland yesterday. It was about 65 degrees out, raining hard, and 8 ft waves. First time I've needed to wear a wetsuit. It was an experience, but a lot of fun.

Ireland, wow, sounds cold. That wave breaking behind you looks fun.

I think tomorrow (Friday) may be the day that we get some clean swell on the Tx coast. Right now there's too much wind on it. May not be much left by Saturday.

Damn them!

I thought it might clean up overnight but we're still pretty blown out here. Gonna wait until this afternoon and see if it cleans up at all. If not then I'll take what I can get.

Yep, and as my new teammate says, "You're a moron for surfing there." I think I'll start telling people the same thing so maybe the next swell there won't be so many surfers there.
