A true hole in the wall.

KING SEAFOOD in Corpus Christi is outstanding!
Definitely not a tourist destination.
Excellent prices.

Blackbeards Too in Ingleside is another hidden gem for shrimp and crab cakes.

Kody's in Port Aransas has an awesome grouper sandwich and shrimp.

That King Seafood looks like a step above Long John Silver's. I will trust you that it is good.

Any comments on Paul's Seafood Market (Corpus and Port A - see links below) limited menu of fried flounder, shrimp, oysters, .....etc.? We always drove by thinking it was just a fish market...

My wife and I haven't been to Kings Inn in years - always loved it. We are going back there later this week.

We have been to Shempy's three times - I always had the catch of the day (flounder) which was very good. We look forward to exploring the other places mentioned on this thread.

Went to your Blackbeard's Too link and clicked on menu - no crab cakes on their menu. :-(

The Blackbeard's Too Homepage says, "Toos also serves All-You-Can-Eat Fried Shrimp on Saturdays."

Black Pearl in Galveston is fantastic. Huge portions and reasonable price. Their fried oyster poboy is one of the best I have had anywhere.

In Winnie, or is there one on the peninsula now?

That's some kind of chain that's been popping up all over SE Texas. I've eaten once at the one in Liberty. Haven't sampled a lot on the menu, but it seems to be kind of neo TexMex seafood. Lots of sauces and combinations. Interior is all decorated with vintage pictures and signs and stuff. From the pictures I've looked at on google maps, all the locations look pretty similar. The one in Liberty has live music some nights. Somewhere in the range of $20-30 for most dishes, I think.

Here's an article I found on the company when we were talking about them on the Houston board:

We went to Charlotte Plummer in Rockport for lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great views upstairs, and the fried shrimp was great. Not sure if it counts as hole in the wall. We tried Shempy's but they didn't open until later.

We eat there but it can be hit or miss at times. I feel like it's 3 to 3.5 star review on Yelp is about right.

That's what I've heard. Fortunately, the shrimp and fries were on point today.

Yardarm

It's not a whole in the wall. It's very expensive with a dress code.

My favorite spot in Rockport is the Boiling Pot. It's probably not for everyone, you eat with your fingers. But in the spring they have oysters and crawfish to go with shrimp and crab. And the beer is always very cold.
If you like the Boiling Pot, you need to try SR Boilhouse in downtown Rockport. We've found the food to be much better there.

Thats a bummer. I thought the food was good and it was great on the water option (with great docks) you could access by boat.

I wish Gnarly Marlin would have promoted more that you could use those docks. I never knew if they were available to the public or not.

Agreed. Now I'm down to Mickeys which has good food but their docks are dicey for a 25' bay boat

The Gnarly Marlin was more miss than hit IMO. Ate there several times and they could never get everything together. I like Mickey's but I am not sure if their docks were designed for a 14' jon boat or not, but they definitely were not designed for my bay boat either. Coasters at Conn Brown is a very good option to dock your boat and eat.

Topwater Grill in San Leon has docks that can accommodate larger boats if you're in that area.

Same here…we have to park right in front if available.

For Coasters do you park in the slips or do you park on the North side of that sea wall/breaker wall that is perpendicular to the shore?

We have been renting a slip from city of Port A and going from Rockport to their and then bouncing around in a golf cart for the day (beach and then Tortuga's usually)

Coasters is in Conn Brown at the Redfish Bay Boathouse. I keep my boat there and called them to ask where people who want to "boat in" to eat can dock . They told me to dock by the gas pumps which is on the south side of the facility. Normally there are dock hands there to help.
You might want to call Coasters before you go..they have different hours. Boathouse also has ethanol free gas if needed.

Thanks for the tips on Coasters.

KAYC - I always wondered if those slips on the left hand side were available.

I am guessing I will unknowingly walk by you and drmwvr on the way to fried shrimp and gumbo this holiday.

Supposedly they are available or are about to be. That's what they have told the members anyway.

There is a monthly email/newsletter. My wife gets it. Not sure how she got onto it.
