Going to be on the Island in late August for a few weekday nights. Need suggestions for a special place to stay and a couple really nice places to dine (or eat, as we say where I grew up). This is to celebrate a special occasion so need some special treatment for the wife. Tremont?, Galvez?, Moody Hotel? Places to eat, many years ago we went to the Wentletrap--it was great but I guess it is now closed or goes by another name? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Our most recent visit to Galveston was last year, and we stayed at the Moody Gardens Hotel for the first time. The hotel was nice, and we had our fine dining experience at Shearn's on the top floor. That was the best that we've had in Galveston. The service and the cuisine were both exceptional, and we would readily do it again, especially for a special occasion. If you choose Shearn's, you might be wise to make reservations in advance, especially for a weekend evening.

Tremont, Galvez and Moody Gardens are all good choices. Shearn's is a great choice for dinner (lobster bisque is a must), as is Rudy and Paco's downtown. Suggest you cross-post on the Houston forum since this one gets very little traffic.

Shearn's for a great steak. Rudy and Paco's for good food and great dining experience. Cajun Greek for beat casual seafood on the island hands down.
