Your favs other than the usual - Gaido's or other Landry's restaurants. Will be there in a couple weeks.

Inexpensive:
The Spot -- burgers, etc.
Di Bella's -- Italian
Sonny's -- burgers, etc.
Shrimp N Stuff -- seafood, poboys, etc.
The Original Mexican -- duh
Mosquito Cafe -- sandwitches, bistro-type food

Expensive:
Rudy & Paco's -- steak and seafood
Shern's (at Moody Gardens) -- steak and seafood
The Steakhouse (at the San Luis) -- steaks
Also heard good things about 901 Postoffice but haven't been there yet

Someone told me there was a place that is owned by Guido's, same food but not as fancy. Is this true?

Wife and I were at Galveston last night and ate at Gaido's. Awesome experience, as they were celebrating their 100 year anniversary.

We bought the cookbook they were selling for about 30 bucks that has every recipe on the menu. Owner came to our table and signed it.

As a side note, does anyone know if Murdochs or Fish Tails are any good? Never eaten at either of those places.

Fish Tales is owened by Fertitta, so it will be food similar to his other restaurants. Have no idea about Murdochs but wouldn't expect anything more than fast food.

Murdoch's is a souvenir shop, no real food there.

Fish Tales is a Fertita/Landry's type restaurant.

"Miles" burgers, do you mean Michael Burger?
About 1-1/2 miles west of the end of the Seawall.

Even though it's a Fertitta-place, Fishermans Wharf on Pier 21 is a good eat with a good view. It's about $20 per person or a tad higher depending on your selection.

Ate at Boudreaux's on the Bayou- off of 69th street facing the bay side. Great blackened catfish, $1 draft beer during happy hour. Very, very casual crowd - lots of bikers. Good place.

Went to mosquito cafe this past weekend, the Green Chile burger was amazing.

Also went to Que Cafe, pretty good for breakfast tacos.

Bistro Lecroy. This is the first time I've heard anyone mention it. He is a customer of ours. I've been meaning to get over there. Glad to get a good review.

Also, there is a relatively new sandwich shop called The Jungle. It is on 23rd St just south of Ave P. The menu looks great, but I really wasn't impressed with my sandwich. I had the "hog gone wild". It had potential on paper (roasted pork, sauted onions and Dr. Pepper bbq sauce) but didn't deliver.

The nathans hot dog was pretty good and so was the chili. I would check it out if you want a good dog. I can't speak for the anything else yet.

just happened to stumble onto Bistro Lecroy.
Was parking on the Strand and everyone was talking about how we hadnt had lunch...parked right in front of Lecroy. Checked out menu in the window and decided to give it a whirl.
Wife had crab cakes and a nice departure from the frozen breaded fare that you expect from many places. Etouffe was good also. For tourists they have a very cool pictorama of Ike on the Strand. I believe the owners rode out the storm from the second floor.

We just got back. Rudy and Paco's is still one of the best restaurants I've been to anywhere. Tried Shrimp and Stuff for the first time. Very good and inexpensive....and lots of Aggies there!

We just got back from Galveston. We go pretty much every summer, but tried a couple of new places this time, along with a favorite.

The Spot - definitely our favorite. Poboys are awesome (shrimp and oyster). The new twist is that it is now a 5 distinct places complex and it is awesome. The wife and I hit happy hour two days in a row at the Squeeze and had some great margaritas. Also went up to Drip (think that's what it was called). Great view, very comfortable up there.
*The new setup is awesome. If you like to drink and relax, check it out.

Star Drug Store - I cannot believe that we've been coming to Galveston for 30 years and never went here. Had a great breakfast here yesterday and felt like we used a time machine to go back to a simpler time. I had an omellette (sp) with onions, tomatoes, and feta cheese that was excellent. My wife's french toast was also very good.

Joe's Crab Shack at Pier 19 - This was destroyed by the hurricane and reopened just a few weeks ago. I love the layout of the new place, inside and out. They also rebuilt the pier and it is fun to walk and look at the boats. As far as the food, it is just like other Joe's so if you like it, well, you'll like this. If not, not. We thought it was really good and you get so much food, you could probably share a dish.

Tiki Bar and Restaurant (Bolivar) - Took the ferry to eat here. Neat little place. Good poboys. Also had steak here on steak night last year and it was awesome. One complaint. HORRID service...some of the worst I've ever seen in my life. There is a sign on the door that says something to the effect that if you do not have patience, you can go elsewhere. I guess they think this relieves them of having to give good service. I'll try it one more time next time we visit, but that may be it if this happens again.

Try the Gumbo Bar on Post Office. Not sure how long it's been open but was there a few weeks and it was quite tasty.

Finally tried the Spot earlier this week when I was in Galveston. It was a great burger and the onion rings were the best I've had. I will definitely return. Thanks for the recommendation!
