My wife wants to give her dad sailing lessons for his 70th birthday. Does anyone have any suggestions for instructors/schools in the Galveston/Kemah area?

Thanks in advance.

The sailing school in Kemah is expensive and is designed to earn certification that can be used to rent your boat by yourself - no capt.

Best bet might be to charter a sailboat for the day and have the capt teach you a few things.

Check out the above link. HLK is a nonprofit sailing group to promote youth character building, but they won't turn away anyone. They sail out of Clear Lake and Galveston. Contact Mike Janota. His info is on the site. He introduced me to sailing and he was my 8th grade history teacher. He is a super nice guy. Oh yeah, they keep the sailboats on Texas A&M Galveston property.

Thanks Nick and Fairway. I really appreciate the suggestions and I'll look into both.
