My wife and I are heading to Galveston on Sunday to spend the day at the beach with our 18 month old daughter. I'm not familiar with the beaches in the area and wanted to know if there is a nice beach (maybe away from town?) that's a little less crowded and family friendly. I'd prefer to be able to drive onto the beach if possible.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hit the seawall and head west until it ends and turns into 3005. There are several access points on your left. The further you go the less people. Find a spot you like.

What fairway said, but the west end beaches are usually are covered in that red seaweed stuff... not sure what it's call, someone will know.

Haven't noticed much seaweed lately. Should be fine. Just follow above advice.

No they aren't---occasionally but not usually.

My grandparents have a house in the city of Jamaica Beach so we have always used those beaches down there. Surely wont be crowded but that is because it is out of the way(about halfway down the island). But you can drive and park on the beach.

It's been about a month or so since I was out there... but I used to take my pup out to sunset beach (I think) right passed Woody's bar and there was always seaweed on the beach. I was down at San Luis pass this weekend and it was very clean.
