of the Memorial Coliseum in its heyday if anyone has them. Also why was it allowed to get in the shape it is in now? How did the roof get so badly damaged- hurricanes maybe?

Not many pics on the internet.

These are pretty small ones

It got in its condition because the city wanted to promote its American Bank Center and figured the best way to do that was to let the coliseum fall into neglect.

A thread with some pics I took of it recently

Here is an interesting video of it's current condition inside.

Is the American bank center the old Bayfront Plaza Audirotium, or is it a different bulding altogether?

Different building built next to it.

American Bank Center

Not sure what the new construction is at the art museum, but here you can see the ABC south of the Bayfront Convention Center. Also note the federal court house on the left.

1984, you ever listen or read Murphy Givens' work? He is a columnist for the Caller Times with a focus on the history of Corpus. You might be interested.

thanks- might just do that

If the courthouse is in the left of the pic you put up there, it doesn't look as bad as everyone makes it out to be- the coliseum is more of an eyesore. Hurricanes had to have done the damage to the roof- what a huge tear!

SURELY the vets have screamed at the powers that be for allowing their memorial to fall in such disrepair. I cannot believe the city has not listened Also, it is such a stupid claim by the city to say it would be too expensive to repair- the vets should be willing to contribute since it is after all THEIR memorial coliseum

that courthouse is the old county courthouse. the federal courthouse they built maybe 10 years ago? That courthouse is just a few blocks west of the federal courthouse, right by the Harbor Bridge. i think the city could do everyone a favor and demolish both of those abandoned run-down buildings.

The memorial is really just a plaque.

Not sure why the veterans would want to spend money to rebuild an abandoned building. If anything, the county should give them to plaque to place in Sherrill Park.

Not to bust balls, but the ABC is not next to the Memorial Colliseum.

He means that the American Bank Center is not next to Memorial Coliseum.
