Me and the family are heading to Galveston in a week for some R&R. We are staying in the Pirats Beach area. We know the beaches in the subdivision are damaged pretty bad and have not been restored/cleaned up. Are there any other beaches in the Pirates Beach area (or close by)we can set up umbrellas for the day(s). Have the beaches at the little state "pocket parks" been restored (which ones are in the best shape)? Any advice/suggestions appreciated. Thank you

their beaches should be coming along fine as they`re taking all our sand from Bolivar Peninsula that we desperately need !

Didn't know that, but................the jetties keep all the sand we should be getting on Bolivar.

Who is moving sand from Bolivar to Galveston?

not sure if its the county or FEMA or the corp of engineers, or combination of all. Mountains of sifted and cleaned sand at various places on the peninsula and was told by a debris truck driver that all that sand is for Galveston. Whether or not thats right or not, I cant say for sure. I have emailed the county commissioner and engineer asking that though.

I haven't seen any collection of dump trucks hauling any sand lately.

They did have something they were talking about, before the storm, adding 200' to the beaches. I don't recall the source--think it was off shore and possibly in West Bay.

I was there over Memorial Day and the beaches were fine at Terramar. You can probably just go to the beaches at Pirates beach. I would avoid the pocket parks.
