We played this course over the Memorial Day holiday and it was fantastic. I highly recommend it for a good challenge on an EXCEPTIONALLY maintained course.

I've played courses in many parts of the country in all kinds of climates, and this course has the best turf I've ever been on.

That thing is an abomination. Port A will soon look like Florida

This course is amazing and I would love to see about 3 more go on the island. Beautiful.

water turkey...I tend to agree that Port A seems to be going in the direction of pricing the locals out of the market. Port A is such a cool little town but w/ all the new condos/houses being built it's on the way to being not so quaint anymore.

if the locals were halfway smart, they would profit of increased growth/tourism

Yes, but have you met any Port A locals?

I went to school in Port Aransas. A lot of my friends parents are selling their land and moving out.

Their kids don't want to run the shops and outsiders are paying top dollar for the land....the parents want to retire.

I played Newport Dunes over the Memorial Day weekend as well.

Really enjoyed it.

We're going to be back down there for the 4th of July. We were going to play out there again but they don't allow 5somes and some of the guys weren't interested in paying $65 dollars.

We settled on Kings Crossing in Corpus. Does anyone know anything about it?

Dude, are you kidding about Kings Crossing?!?!?!?

Please don't waste your money.

And...if it is free....don't waste your time.

Is newport dunes still open to the public? We will be there in august and I would love to hack up that track

Same thing is happening in Rockport. We bought a place down there 5 years ago. The neighbors just sold their place with half the square footage and less amenities for twice what we paid.

Salty,

What's the deal with Kings Crossing? If you can think of another course around the Rockport-Portland-Corpus Christi area that is better for around 30-40 bucks I'm more than happy to check it out.

To be honest of the 8 of us playing only 4 of us are serious golfers who are going to care about the course and everything. Is it just a total goat ranch or what?

Seriously man, the course is in poor condition. Don't waste your money. I know a guy that services sprinkler systems and the word is that the owners of that course don't pay...he doesn't call on 'em anymore. Friends that live on the course are complaining big time b/c of the lack of maintenance.

Spend it at Newport Dunes. The course is really nice and even "non golfers" that I've played with were very impressed.

Salty,

I wish we had followed your advice although we didn't end up playing there anyway.

If you would have told me to imagine the worst possible golf course conditions, I wouldn't have come close to anything as bad as Kings Crossing. As we drove up we saw what looked like a drainage ditch which we realized was actually the fairway.

The owners of Kings Crossing should be tarred and feathered for what they have done to that course. We went to Pharaoh's after that and it was in the same condition.

We ended up playing at Rockport Country Club which was in really great shape. I've played out there many times in the past few years and the greens were in the best shape I've seen. The fairways were in good condition as well as there were only a few dead areas but there was still grass.

If you are going to be in the Corpus/Rockport area play either Rockport Country Club or Newport Dunes.

We checked out Northshore at one point. It was mediocre but you could tell that they are starting to lose their fairways as well.

What is the deal with that? Do courses down there have trouble finding ways water their fairways?

In the Calallen area, try the River Hills Country Club - it is open to the public. The greens are in great shape, and despite the historic drought, the fairways ire in decent condition. Club pro is an ag.

Played there a few weeks ago. Lost a ton of balls but had a great time on a wonderful course.
