All Corpus Christi Independent School District schools will be empty today as the district joins more than 40 Texas districts that have closed in hopes of reducing the spread of the swine flu.

“It was not a decision we took lightly,” Superintendent Scott Elliff said. “We noticed upward trends in the number of suspected cases and instead of waiting a few days for those numbers to rise, we want to help the spreading stop now.”

On Monday, Nueces County had one confirmed case of swine flu, also known as North American flu or H1N1 flu, involving a 17-year-old Miller High School student.
