How long do you want to ignore this user?
My wife, 8 month old daugther and I are heading to Rockport for vacation. We'll be there from April 2-11. Anything going on we should check out. Eating places? Thanks for any info.

there was a place called the Back 40 that we always wanted to eat at when we were there for tennis tournaments... that's a funny name

Back 40 is closed and was horrible.

Upscale (might not be good for the kid, though): Hemingway's, Cheryl's (in Fulton). Cheryl's takes a while, so w/ a baby, probably not practical. Hemingways probably isn't too baby friendly either.

Fried shrimp, etc: Captain Billy's Wife's Place (south side of town on 35); Charlotte Plummer's (Fulton).

Boiling Pot--crawfish, shrimp thrown on the table.

Los Comales--Mexican. More of a local place, but if you're in the mood for TexMex, it's pretty good.

Hu Dat--Vietnameese (Dat Ngyuen's family)

Things to do: I think yall will be too late for Oyster Festival, but I'm not sure. Fish. Maritime Museum (might be better for when the kid is older). Art galleries in downtown Rockport. If you're outdoorsy, Aransas NWR is nearby and is pretty cool. It's mostly known for the Whooping Cranes, but they might've headed back to the north already. There's also some boat tours--Whooping Cranes, sunset, etc. Never done them, but I've heard the sunset cruise is good.

The Diner, right on 35 near the old part of town, isn't too bad for lunch or breakfast. I don't think they're open on Sunday or Monday though.

I think the Diner is closed on Saturdays but is open Sundays. Hemmingway's is closed. (owners retired)

Hu Dat is wonderful, Pho Ga and Bun Tom are my favorites. Across from Hu Dat's on the water is a place name Moondogs. They serve fish, great burgers and barbeque. The crab cakes are very good. Charlotte Plummers has a good fish menu. All of these are laid back and child friendly.

Thanks for the advice guys. The good thing is that my in-laws will be taking care of our daughter for about half the trip so we can do some "adult" stuff too. If you think of anything else, let me know.

Ahh, the Diner. My uncle and grandparents used always make us go there when we visited.

Latitude's for upscale dining. Only open for diner. Closed Mondays.

Paradise Key on Key Allegro for hanging out on the deck drinking a cold one while looking out on the marina. Stick to fish dishes the fried shrimp isn't very good.

Panjos pizza. Thin crisp crust.

China A Buffet is actually pretty good Chinese.

CrabN south of town on business 35

Ja Mama's for breakfast or cheesecake during the day.

Alice Faye's

Moondogs

Los Comales- A bit more on the interior side for Tex-Mex

Giggles- for ice cream. they close at 4pm

I'm not a Charlotte Plummer's fan

Take the ferry across to Port Aransas and the island for a day.

On Friday and Saturday nights, holidays, and all of spring break eat at off times(before 6 or after 9). The restaurants can't handle all the extra business that well and 2 hours to get seated and get food is fairly common during those times. Same advice for lunch during spring break and holiday weekends.
