Things to do:
Beach
Shop
Fish
Eat
Drink

It's about 30 minutes to the Aquarium, depending on ferry traffic.

Beulah's is the s***!!
The Venetian Hot Plate...Italian food
Shells Pasta & Seafood is good and unique.
Port A Pizzeria is really good.
My friend owns Quiznos, so feel free to eat there everyday.
Trout Street sucks.

who8p,

Be thankful they made it more family oriented, almost entirely so.

Back in the day, it was where South Padre learned how to get wild.

The people working in most jobs there now did not even know about the lighted mile of beach it used to have. I remember walking down to it from an access road when we got there about 3:00 AM once, passing the police and asking why they were'nt down there and they said "too wild for us, we'll just pick up the pieces in the morning."

Complete and total debauchery back then.

However it is completely different now. Me, my wife and young son go every year during early June for a weekend, and enjoy it very much, however I still have "flashbacks" so to speak of some of the crap we did.

I wouldn't take the ferry to get to Corpus unless you could drive right on. It is 37 miles to go through Flour Bluff or 30 miles to go accross the ferry. You could take the ferry going there, but the line will likely be long coming back.

It doesn't sound like you are fishing, but just a suggestion in case you are. My family really likes Fins. They cook up your fish for a reasonable price. You can get it fried, grilled, or blackened.

My parents really like eating at the Wharf. I have only eaten there once, so I don't have much to go on. The mexican food place right down the street from The Wharf is reasonable.

+1 for the Wharf. I really like it there, however like anyplace at the coast service is spotty. Just go for the food with the attitude the service will be mediocre and you will be just fine.

Well... The Wharf is gone. Didn't expect that one. We planned on eating there on Friday.
