My wife and I are planning on taking our son (18 months) on our first family vacation to Corpus for a few days late spring/early summer. Because of the little one, we'd like a 2-bedroom style suite. Any advice on where to stay, what to do, or even when to go.

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Just curious...but why Corpus? Being from there, I never saw it as real tourist friendly city. There's some interesting things such as the Lex and the Aquarium, but I don't know if those would be alot of fun with an 18 month old.

The beaches in Corpus aren't great, but if you head out to the island (Padre Island), they get better. Really, I would suggest looking at some of the condos out on Mustang Island (http://www.portaransas.org/condo.html) and then you can do the beach for a day or two and then head up to some of the small beach towns like Port Aransas and Rockport. They've got some really neat little downtown squares and places like that. Then, if you want to do the Lexington or Aquarium, it's only a 30 minute drive or so.

As far as when to go, any time past April and it's gonna be nice and hot. I would wait until the end of May or June because the wind seems to slow down a little compared to April and early May.

Not trying to be killjoy or anything, but I don't think Corpus proper is really all that great of a vacation spot. Like I said before, I think something out on the island would be much more enjoyable.

If you've got any other questions, feel free to ask!

Apparently, TexAgs doesn't like my URL code.

If you're going to vaca in Corpus, I'd stay a bit north in Port Aransas. Check out Port Royal Condos; they are btwn Port A and CC.

Port A is vastly more tourist oriented than CC. Lots of shops, restaurants, and the beach is more family friendly (especially with little kids) than CC.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I think we'll actually stay around Corpus (instead of Corpus proper). I appreciate the help!

Being from Houston, I think Corpus is a great place to visit - mostly for the outdoor activities it offers. Fishing, beaches, occasionally good bands, plenty of seafood - it's a great town.

Nothing I just mentioned seems to be great for an 18 month old, though!

You might check out Fortuna Bay Bed & Breakfast out on North Padre Island. It's on the water (intercoastal side) and it's very nice. It's also Aggie owned and operated.

I would not wait too long to make reservations though! Lot's of talk about added traffic this year due to Galveston and South Padre and hurricane damage from last year. Stay at Port Royal, best pool anywhere and great access to the beach. They are also full kitchens so you can stop at the HEB in Flour Bluff on the way out and load up with snacks and beverages. They also have all the beach gear you would need. I compare Corpus to the Guadalupe River, not the most breath taking sometimes but a great place to watch the sun rise and set.

If you want to get in the water with the kiddo, try Rockport. The beach there is very shallow for a long way out and there is little wave action. When I was a kid I liked it better until I got older and could handle the waves at Port A.

There are a lot shells for the kid to play with there and the black skimmers roost just behind the beach. Good restaurants as well.

The excursion boats might be enjoyable for him as well because everything is behind the barrier islands and less turbulent.
