FINALLY! A timeline hint!

The thing that most Galveston residents need to understand:

1. You cannot return to a city / island that doesn't have:

water, power, basic services (E.R., Hospitals, Police, Trash Pick Up), no businesses (gas stations, food stores etc.)

- If you let people into the city without basic functioning services, you're going to have another disaster.

I believe in New Orleans, they waited 1 full month to allow residents back into the city.

Do you live on the island or are you just interested in bringing everyone down?

The island DOES currently have water, phone, and grocery stores open. UTMB will be functioning shortly.

You keep comparing what happend to Galveston to what happend to New Orleans. New Orleans sat under water for weeks while they pumped it out, there was no where for the water to drain.

And how do you expect businesses to open if people aren't allowed back in them to get them cleaned up? I guess you are just going back to your other logic that we should just shut down the island for good.

incorrect, many residents do not have power and water is undrinkable. I wish the people of Galveston well, they must be patient.

If basic services are not at least somewhat functional: fire department, hospitals, police, waste management etc. You're going to have a major problem if residents are allowed on the island.

Residents need to be able to get back and air out their houses, pull up carpet, etc. before things turn to mold and end up in worse shape. Once the people return, things will start getting cleaned up and getting back to normal.

how will they clean their houses without power and water? Who will haul the debris away? When and Where will they haul it to?

Residents need to make sure they are all up to date with their shots before they return.

They can get the water. They may have to boil it, but they have it. As for power, I guess people have never used brooms, dust rags, mops, etc before.

I wouldn't mind seeing this question answered.

Its a double edged swored, people need to come back, but if they come back things might not move as quickly as they need to.

I understand that...but you have to try and accomadate the citizens and property owners. It is easy to say what SHOULD be done as far as not letting people in and people being patient, but when I know my parents house is rotting as we speak...it is alittle hard to feel that way and totally agree with that.

The state of Texas should be making getting Galveston (and other areas there were affected just as bad) back in order priority #1.

I understand that people need to stay out of the way of the City's cleanup effort. However, houses that only got water damage are going to rot, and only be in worse shape if wet material is not taken out and everything is not allowed to dry out.

Stuff taken out of the house can be piled along the curb with everything else. Trash sat on the curb for months in Nola.

There were huge trashpiles all throughout Homestead, Florida and the surrounding area a year after Hurricane Andrew hit. I don't see that happening in this situation, but I'm just saying.

My dad's back He's a contractor so, after initially sneaking onto the island via boat, he was allowed to stay (I believe he left to get supplies). Even if people are not allowed to stay, the need to be allowed onto the island to do at least some minimal clean up to their homes.
