I never realized how redneck things were back in the E-Tex until I moved to the metroplex. Living in College Station for 5 years didn't change my perspective - imagine that.
My recent Garden State moment in Tyler/Whitehouse: So visiting friends and Saturday go to the boats, as I'm leaving notice I have a headlight out. I'm thinking there is no way I am going to make it back from Shreveport all the was to Whitehouse to my girlfriend's house without getting stopped. ( she's not from Whitehouse, parents just renting while they build, I think this is an important detail ). So sure enough I make it all the way to Whitehouse to get pulled over. Officer comes to the window asks for the usual and I hear a familiar voice. I look at his face; look at his name tag and sure enough, one of my high school buddy’s younger brothers. Would I have gotten a ticket had I not known him, who knows? But I knew I was home free then. Only wish I could have saved this moment for a more "serious" infraction. But that's East Texas for ya.
