I am driving back to Texas from Indiana. Yahoo Maps suggests crossing Arkansas into Texarkana, and taking 59 to Houston. Mapquest suggests head south all the way through Louisiana and taking I-10 over to Houston. Being that LA is still screwed up from Katrina and I hate driving I-10, I was looking for some opinions of 59. I haven't traveled 59 in a long time, but I remember it running through several towns with lower speed limits and stop lights. Is this still the case? Are there particular areas (speed traps) I should look out for? Any useful information is appreciated.

Yes you still run through small towns and such with lights. This won't change until they finally start work on I-69

The main speed trap ones are Diboll and Corrigan-Camden right after lufkin.

Are there a significant amount of small towns? Meaning, how far will this stretch of highway throw off my estimated drive time?

it's really not that bad...

once you hit Carthage it's 185 miles to W. Houston and it takes right at 3 hours from there.
