Due to the baby/children situation at my house I don't get a lot of free time, but every now and then I get a couple of hours to myself. I would love to know about a few places close to town that I could drive to within 15-20 minutes, drop a line in the water, and fish for an hour or two. No boats, nothing complicated. Just some public water I can fish for an hour to an hour and a half, and head home. Here's what I have heard, but I would love some options, or any specifics on these locations.

Hollytree - Can you really fish the lakes on the golf course without looking like a rube and/or screwing up someones golf game?
Cascades - Same as above
UT Tyler - I've heard people fish the lake there, but I've never heard of anyone actually catching anything there
Faulkner Park - I've seen guys bank fishing with a cork several times there. Is it any good?
Green Acres Baptist ROC - I've heard they have a little stocked pond
The Glass Recreation center - Again, I've heard they have a little stock pond.

Thanks

I wouldn't encourage fishing at hollytree or cascades unless its on a Monday. a golf ball hurts. on Mondays its only maintenance staff and theyre probably fishing too. hollytree does have some good bass though.
not sure about the other places.

Do not know your location, but I can have boat in water in 15 minutes out at Green Acres Lake Tyler facility. This is from Troup and loop. They have several piers you could fish off of, and fish from bank.I have seen bass jumping pretty close to bank. Beautiful place. I do not know policy/membership,( I am member) but it just costs me 5 buck a year to launch boat. Plus when your kids get older they could swim, picnic etc. I have always wondered if they would say anything if I dumped a sack of cubes near pier to attract catfish. It will not be crowded until summer camp.

First Baptist South Campus (69 south...just past 49 take a right on that FM road that goes to Gresham....church is on your left).

Pretty decent sized lake. Gets stocked periodically. Church encourages people to come out and use it at any time.

You can fish on the Neches River for sand bass in the spring (late feb through march or so). It's a lot of fun since they are running up the river to spawn. Pretty much drop a line and pull it out and you will have a fish on it. I've seen people dropping two or three hooks and hooking all them.

Just drive on 31 toward chandler and park on the highway at the bridge that goes over the river. You can move up and down the river from there. Watch out, though, as it will probably be crowded!

Last time I went, we easily hit our limit within 2 hours.

I think the city of Chandler has made a parking lot to get you off the highway there.

What Stive said. There is a lot of runoff there right now though from the Cumberland shops construction. Should be better in a few months. I think I've heard they want to put in a fountain too for aeration or something like that.

I'm a member at FBC South. The church staff does encourage anyone from the public to come out and use the lake. Quite a few people fish out there, but I haven't gotten around to fishing it myself. I've heard mixed results on the quality of the fishing, but I know it has been stocked.

About 30 years ago. PITA then....I doubt it's any better now.

I've gone upstream from 31. Don't know how close to 64 we got but I imagine it was close. It was kinda flooded then too so not sure about obstructions.

Tyler State Park. There are some nice fish in that little lake.
