Other than developing a healthy meth habit, what should I know about this place?

What are areas (cross streets) that I should avoid and night, or day?
Any recommendation for apartments?
Best restaurants I should try? (don't say Rudys)
Best running trails?
Any parks for the road bicycle?

I know zero about this place. I stayed there for a week once. Just taking up an incredible job opportunity.

Tyler wasn't real happy to hear you are on the way, either.

Any intersection on Loop 323 should be avoided at all costs. However this is impossible, but you'll soon realize how many stoplights there are in that town. Loop 323 and Broadway area will always be bad, especially during day and evening.

Autumn Glen, The Bridges on Kinsey, Anything down Rice road or Grande blvd is pretty decent. If i was looking, I'd stay away from the North side of town, anything around UT Tyler and anything inside the loop. Best area is probably South down broadway and to the west of that area, which is the Rice Rd/Grande blvd. However since I lived there they have extended Grande blvd out to the east and added several new complexes in that area of Paluxy and Shiloh Rd that look nice. This is probably complicated, but hope it helps.

Stanley's BBQ
Taco el lugar
Downtown Soul Food Cafe
El Charro's Mexican Restaurant
Don Juans Mexican Restaurant
Bruno's Pizza
Julian's Asian Diner
The Feed Lot

Rose Rudman Park, miles upon miles

Excellent Titan, I appreciate it.

I am looking forward to moving to Tyler. I think it's a beautiful area that's not too big but not too small.

don't trust ice, he's a brown tranny who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.

As far as apartments go, titan is spot on. Enjoy tyler, we are equally close to dallas and shreveport for the big city life but far enough away for the small town pace!

Any place I can get some crawfish in Tyler... hopefully before this oil spill completely destroys the supply?

Fat Catz but I personally dont think they are spicey enough. If you want some good ones go to Randys out towards Coffee City or there is a small place past that on the right where an Coffee Landing used to be.... Its the actual owners of the Old Coffee landing that just opened up a small place for a while. Good Stuff!

there is also a small shack on 155 as you're heading towards frankston on the left just after loop 323.

not sure if it is still there but it was good.

Villa

Villa's food is average if that. Their drinks however are superb! But, the last two times we've been there, the service was terrible. Last Thursday evening we had reservations at 7:30, and didn't get our APPETIZERS until 8:45. We got our meal at 9:15 and it wasn't correct so some had to be sent back.

We won't be making trips to the villa any time soon.

have fun not being able to run down the street for booze.

ribs - run to the country tavern outside of town
mercados is where everyone who isn't from tyler goes to eat - it's average
buy a place on the lake
jake's - decent scene/crowd...food is above average
rick's - used to be (or maybe still is) owned by the same people who own jake's
there's a sportsbar owned by former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes downtown

Adding this makes me question your entire post. The SportZone is awful and should never be mentioned as an attraction or possible place to get a drink.

Jakes/Ricks is a nice place to be seen at. You are spot on with mercados and country tavern. And I expect beer and wine sales inside city limits to happen sooner rather than later.

I watched some Cowboys game at that sportsbar 2 years ago because it was on NFL network and the house I was at didn't get that channel. It's the only time I've stepped foot in there.

You can buy some wine in Tyler - I think anything at the Kiepersol (sp?) store or at their actual winery.

Yes, you can buy wine at Kipersol but I was meaning more along the lines of grocery stores selling beer and wine. At least I hope so.

Like I would know what that street looks like now. Jeebus, it was a joke!!!

Rock, I'm sorry. There is very little win in Tyler on the social scene.

Not worried, between the lake, running, and biking I think I can keep myself entertained.

Thanks for ignoring my compliment. btw.

Oh and golf.

What is your favorite driving range and/or golf course?
Physical Graffiti
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
There are no driving ranges that are not part of a course in Tyler.

The best public course is Garden Valley on I-20. If you know someone who is a member then you'll love Hollytree (tight course/new money) Cascades (Newer course) or Willowbrook (Old money Tyler). Hollytree and Cascades are the two best courses on Tyler (Private). Also, Eagle's Bluff is a great course south of Tyler but is Private as well.

What kind of biking do you do? Road or mountain. There is a great MTN trail at Tyler State Park and a pretty new up and coming track at Faulkner Park on the south-side of Tyler.

Frankston has Pine Dunes as well, which regularly made the top 10 public courses in Texas. (not sure if it still does) 180+ sand traps and as fun/hard of a track as you'll find around these parts.

Also, if you like to spread it around, the company that owns Eagles Bluff owns several other courses in the ET area (Marshall, Jacksonville, etc) that you can play on if you are a member at another of their tracks for the cost of a cart.
