What is the best golf course in the RGV?

I dunno. I'm guessing Tierra Santa, South Padre and Los Lagos would be in the discussion.

Has anybody played River Bend lately? I have no idea what kind of shape it's in.

If you are looking to hit every club in your bag then the three mentioned are them. I would have to include Cimarron as well.

MCC = old style and very plain
all others = pasture pool

Have you played Riverbend in Brownsville?

And I love MCC since it's short and can be totally empty sometimes. I love those 2 hour rounds.

I can't believe you guys haven't mentioned Palm View! Yes, back before they rebuilt it, it sukt. Now, I believe it is in the top 5 in the valley. When the greens are "tournament fast" it is a beast...but fair.

Palmview crossed my mind but it's been a couple of years (at least) since I played it. I played the old version a ton.

So of those 5 then does one stick out as the best?

I friggin' hate Monte Cristo.

Wow I totally forgot about Monte Cristo. Haven't played there in a while.

Wow that brings up a bad memory. We were playing a 6 person $2 a hole thing and a par 3 there was worth like 6 holes or $72. I put my tee shot to within 2 1/2 feet and missed the birdie that would've taken all of the money. That sucked.

I think we're paying $270 a month for MCC.

What about the initiation fee?

Probably around a couple thousand but I really don't remember. I'll check.

I guess we all forgot about Rancho Viejo, in Brownsville. They have 2 nice courses there.

Best is Cimarron, IMO. Very lush and well-kept. SPI is second just because of the fact that the strong winds make it too difficult for us 18-handicappers.It is very nice though.

A very very underrated course is Seven Oaks in Mission. Outstanding and summer green fees are like $17 w/cart. Shary is not what it once was, but it'll play in the summer.

River Bend is easily the best course in Brownsville, but like the scorecard proudly shows, it's "where water always comes into play".

Love Seven Oaks and River Bend. And wow Seven Oaks is deserted in the summer and very, very cheap.
