HI! I noticed people mentioned The Blue Door- its pretty good and they don't allow SMOKING! Like all bars in this town!
The thing in Midland is that you have to be willing to look for things to do :-(

I am apart of Young Professionals of Midland (YPMidland.org) and a few other organziations in town.

I can give you lists of places to eat, drink and try and have a good time too. There is an A&M Club here and the people are fantastic.

Let me know if you need anything! It is a very different dynamic here, and this comes from the "import" in me. Been here about 3 years.

Last weekend had a great production of Godspell that benefited MAAS

This Friday & Saturday there's Improv at the Yucca theater. Think "whos line is it anyway" and then throw away any attempt at restraint or censorship out the window. Great show. Not kid friendly.



In a few weeks there's a fun evening at the Museum of the Southwest. It's their big dinnerparty fundraiser thing and this year's theme is the Roaring Twenties. A bunch of actors will dress up and play roles and people from the 20's.


There's stuff to do....


The trick is to get involved in something...ANYTHING.

The improv is great! Enjoyed it the last couple of years.

The Planetarium has a viewing party with telescopes on the 18th. Should be cool if the weather cooperates

Brian Regan will be at the Wagner Noel on February 23rd.

Broadway version of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" will be here on the 24th again at the Wagner.

And I'm glad you saw the show on Friday. Everything went smoothly on Friday and the Improv was a lot better.


Saturday had issues. It didn't take but 2 games for the entire Improv troope to degenerate into "heheheheh I said a bad word on stage". Also, the 'volunteer' bar crew though that the beer magically restocked itself and forgot to order new kegs for Saturday and we were out until almost intermission. Then they ran out of cups. Then they took for.e.ver to make drinks. They finally beat the pre-show rush at the beginning of intermission.

Predmid, do you help organize this event? I need to get involved in something, anything....I'm going stir crazy in the evenings and on the weekends.

I am very heavily involved in the theater....so if you ever have an inkling to go get involved, let me know.

if you ask a theater person "Hey, you know an Aggie Engineer?" that's me.

Ask the A&M club "hey, who's the theater nerd" they'll point you in my direction.

Looks like I'm moving out to Midland / Odessa for work in a couple of months. Any suggestions in terms of housing -- I've heard its expensive and lacking? Would preferably live somewhere gated with garages that can be rented... Done with shady complexes and the headaches dealt with over the years trying to save a buck.

I'm definitely going to get involved in the Young Professionals / Aggie Club.

The nice apts with garages are The Palms and Blue Ridge that I know of for sure. There might be some in the Midessa area (off 191) in between midland and odessa.

I knew the cost of living was going to be higher, but I'm getting a little stressed looking at these $1,300+/month 1BR apartments with no availability regardless.

If anyone hears of anything coming open that they can vouch for please shoot me a PM. I'm targeting mid-March.

Well, I don't know of anything yet, but I'll be looking for a new roommate in May-ish. 3BR duplex.

Waterford Ranch is where I live. Its expensive but pretty nice. People are moving in and out all the time. Stay diligent and you'll find something.

I think 1 bedrooms start at 1200 ish. My 2/2 is around 1700. This is at Waterford Ranch.

Crap, the p&i on my 15 year mortgage for 2000 ft house, 2000 ft shop building on 4 acres is only a hundred a month more than that....
