I have a buddy from Amarillo who is meeting us in new braunfels to float the river. Does anybody have a decent route to get there?

The fastest way may be to travel down 287 to Ft Worth and then I-35 to NB. But it is a boring drive.

If you do not mind stopping in every little town between the two then the Ama to Lubbock, Abilene, Coleman, Brady, Fredricksburg, to NB is not too bad.

I have never traveled this route from Amarillo, but Ama to Wichita Falls and then down 281 to NB might not be bad. I have been up and down 281 and it is a pretty good road all the way.

It is a long haul anyway you look at it. Southwest flies out of Amarillo. That would be my choice.

I'm from NB/San Antonio, I'd recommend 281. I'd have to refresh my memory on a map to get from 281 to River Road or Canyon Lake or wherever, but I'd definitely say it's faster than taking 35.

For reference, it is 5 hours from Childress to Austin via 287 = I-35. You just have to miss the really bad Ft Worth and Austin traffic. If your buddy is going on Friday. Take 281 from Wichita Falls.
