Hey guys, going to Amarillo for work. What is best steak in town? I can go to Big Texan by default, is it good or touristy?

Big Texan is definitely touristy. And pretty mid. Last two times we ate there the steaks were tough.

Last good steak I ate in Amarillo was actually at Green Chile Willies, between Amarillo and Canyon.

Agree with both of above, but I can't resist the CFS at Willy's. Hoffbrau on west I-40 is pretty good.

Absolute best is Double XXL north of Lake Meredith. Only open Friday and Saturday nights, and you have to call or email for reservations a day or two before. Not cheap, but really good, and leftovers for another 2 meals

Take cash, I'm not sure if they take cards. Be prepared to tip generously, as the wait staff is usually folks who need a second chance in life

Lonestar bar and coyote bluff have good steaks but they are dives

I agree and go there a few times a year. Haven't been to lonestar in a decade.

Not sure if Charlie has any cancellations or if you want to drive, but Double XL between Dumas and Stinnett is legit (and it's only 6miles from my home) but it's our favorite.

As I said above. Easily the best steak house in the Panhandle. And we saw antelope out there last time we went

He's now booking November and December!

Again, happy for him, sucks for us.

Ohms had a great steak last time I went.

It's kind of embarrassing that the epicenter of the beef industry in the US has at the top of it's list mostly chicken fried steak (don't get me wrong, I love it, but....) and chain steakhouses.

I think I'd steer you to Las Brisas downtown.

Well fooey. Don't take my advice!

It closing was a bummer. We used to eat dinner there with customers during the Amarillo farm show. We'd make reservations for the next year when we left.
