Any suggestions. I know one off the top of my head which is 'Hunan Plus' on Bellaire. Damn good food that's enough to feed an army and it's freakin' cheap as heck. Lunch specials are a pretty good portion for only $2.95, + 50 cent cokes.

I need more. Feed me.

Natalita's @ Jones and 290. Awesome texmex place to wait out traffic when you are on your way to BCS.

Coco's Yakitori at Fountainview and Richmond. Best sushi in town, no faux Chinese decor, and Ken (the owner)'s mom helps out waiting tables for him.

Ya know, I'm actually friends with the owner of that Hunan's restaurant. They live on the corner of Avenue B and Oleander. Deya speaka berry little engliss. I didn't really think that was a hole in the wall though.

I recommend the Ninfa's on Navigation. The rest of the entire chain has gone to ****, but this one individual restaurant is very excellent.

The Ninfa's on Memorial in my experience is one of the best in town. Navigation is good but the service sucks.

Hickory Hollow has a pretty damned good chicken fried steak. Lankford Grocery has great burgers. Los Cucos is probably the best bang for the buck mexican food. Not the best mind you, but *excellent* salsa and their prices are great. Star Pizza (is that a hole in the wall? Probably not...)

Ej's Pizzaria (Barker Cypress and 290 in the Randalls shopping center) - It started as a small neighborhood pizza place, but with it's reputation for the best pizza in Houston and best meatball sandwiches growing by leaps and bounds the place is going to have to expand quick. It is packed out almost every night, including AGGIES NIGHT on Thursdays (The Stone Gate Aggies meet there each week).

Carl's BBQ (Telge @ 290) - Unbelievable BBQ and great sides. Great sauce also...

Obviously, you have not frequented the Navigtion location very often. They fall all over themselves taking care of us when we go in there.

these 2 places aren't hole in the wall joints, but they are cheap and good.

Brother's Pizza (I-10 and HWY 6- next to Sam's) is probably the best pizza in town, most of the workers are Italian dudes from NYC, and their prices are great.

Cafe Tin Tin (5700 block of San Felipe, by Bering) has the best Chinese food outside of PF Changs. it's nice inside with a sweet bar, TVs, and lunch specials for 5-7 bucks. their rice and soup are great.

100% Taquito right off of 59 feeder across from Compaq Center(Lakewood Church) has some real good traditional Mexican dishes. It is cheap and simple, and isn't TexMex like most every Mexican restaurant in Houston.

Marco's taqueria, it's a small stand on Hempstead highway between Antoine and Bingle by Turner's hardware, little taco stand that has the best taco's and quesidillas and burrito's and you fill up for about $3.

Not really a hole-in-the-wall but Santa Fe New Mex Grille on 249 north past Louetta. Owned by an Aggie also.

I will second each of the following as excellent places to eat (excellent food and easy on the pocket book):

Natalitas - try a margarita. They are quite good
Lankfords - great burgers and cheese enchiladas. The atmosphere is tough to beat but the service is questionable (but that is part of the experience)
100% Taquito - one of my favorite places to eat in all of H-town. The steak quesadillas on flour tortillas are AWESOME! Read the newspaper articles in the entry to learn how they got started... neat story

Some other places that I really enjoy are:

La Fiesta - located at Bunker Hill and I-10 (southside on the back end of the shopping center by Shipley's) and another one at Westheimer past Wilcrest (going west). Great cheese enchiladas.
Cafe Panda Garden - great lunch specials and excellent General Tso's chicken... ask for it extra spicy for an extra kick. They are located at San Filipe and Fountain View (south side on Fountainview) and Weslayen at Bissonnet (on the west side in a shopping center, north of Bissonnet)

Thanks. That's good to know. I live in that area, and drive by there all the time. I've never stopped there, as it doesn't look like anything unique from the outside. But I'll definitely check it out now.

For burgers: Annie's Hamburgers on South Post Oak (forget the cross street, but it's south of Meyer Park a little bit), and Cue's Burgers, which is on SPO just south of Meyer Park.

Service and food are great at Ninfa's on Navigation. They just must have hated you.

I second Thelma's on Live Oak. Great brisquit (ask for in and out), ribs and chicken and low prices.

Frenchy's Fried Chicken on Scott next to Cougar High. Chicken, cobbler and red beans and sausage and gumbo are great.

This Is It for good soul food on W. Gray.

Mings for chinese at Montrose/Westhiemer.

i rememver when they were inside West Oaks Mall. yeah, theyre a bunch of genuine new yorkers. and they do make damn good pizza...you just have to dab the grease off w/ a napkin.

that's funny.... you have to let the pizza cool a little or the napkin will stick to the cheese.

These all have at least a bit of a "hole-in-the-wall" aspect to them:

Italian: Fred's Italian Corner on Holcombe

Burgers: Otto's on Memorial

Mexican: Ninfa's on Navigation (service has always been GREAT for me)

Cajun: Ragin' Cajun on Richmond

Seafood: Goode Company off Kirby & Bissonet

Thai: Thai Pepper on Alabama

Brother's Pizza is soooo damn good. I lived on their grease any time I went to west oaks.

They can't be beat.

Hickory Hollow is damn good.

Onion Creek on 6th and pretty much oxford st in the heights is a good place for a cold beer and sandwich.
